1. A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will intensify and reach Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

2. Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Kerala on Thursday, leading to waterlogging in the low-lying areas of major cities, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Thrissur. The India meteorological department (IMD) issued an orange alert in nine districts of the state indicating heavy rainfall.

3. Cyclone Remal is set to impact Bangladesh and West Bengal, leaving Andhra Pradesh and Odisha with minimal effects. A low-pressure area over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal has moved northeast wards and developed into a well-marked low-pressure area over west-central adjoining south Bay of Bengal on Thursday.

4. Campaigning for sixth phase of general elections comes to an end; Polling in 58 parliamentary constituencies to take place on Saturday.

5. In the National Capital Delhi, the polling will take place in a single phase on Saturday for all seven seats.

6. Narada Jayanti will be observed on Friday, 24 May 2024. Narada Jayanti is celebrated annually to mark the birth anniversary of Narada Muni. It falls in the month of Vaisakh during Krishna Paksha on the first day of Pratipada tithi.

7. Syria Parveen, a BJP leader and a notable figure in the Sandeshkhali movement, joined the TMC on Thursday, attributing her decision to disillusionment with the saffron party and a sense of suffocation within the party’s ranks.

8. Hyderabad will host India’s first and biggest ‘Artificial Intelligence City’ (AI City) soon. Officials of Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) identified 200 acres land parcels along Outer Ring Road in Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Chevella and Ibrahimpatnam mandals for setting up AI City.

10. Jamia Millia Islamia on Wednesday appointed Mohammad Shakeel as its Officiating Vice Chancellor, hours after the Delhi High Court quashed the appointment of Eqbal Hussain and directed the varsity to make a fresh appointment within one week.

11. Department of Telecommunications identified approximately 6.80 lakh mobile connections as fake and invalid. The department has directed the operators to carry out immediate re-verification of these identified mobile numbers. All Telecommunications Service Providers are mandated to re-verify the flagged connections within 60 days. It said, failure to complete re-verification will result in the disconnection of the concerned mobile numbers.

12. Shri Ramesh Babu V. has taken the oath of office and secrecy as a Member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on May 21, 2024. The oath was administered by the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh.

1. Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and other top military officials were there on a special day to mark the start of “Project UDBHAV.” The event took place at the Indian Military Heritage Festival. This project is an innovative partnership between the Indian Army and the United Services Institution of India (USI). Its goal is to combine India’s extensive historical military knowledge with modern strategy methods.

The project, called UDBHAV, which means “origin” or “genesis,” wants to look into and bring back to life the deep and wide-ranging military ideas that are found in India’s past writings. The main goal of Project UDBHAV is to combine old military methods with modern military doctrines.

2. Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Army Commander South Western Command reviewed the operational preparedness of Ranbankura Division during the conduct of Exercise Anant Vijay. Exercise Anant Vijay was conducted by the troops of Ranbankura Division in the vast expanses of Thar Desert from 20th April to 22nd May 2024.

3. A combined Passing Out Parade was held on Wednesday for all student officers attending various aviation and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) courses at the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CATS) on Nashik Road.

During the Passing Out Parade, wings and instructor badges were awarded to 42 officers by Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar Suri, director general and colonel commandant, Army Aviation Corps.

23 officers were awarded the coveted Aviation Wings to become combat helicopter pilots, eight officers were awarded Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) badge to become helicopter instructors, seven officers were awarded the instructor badge to function as flying instructors on RPAS and four officers were awarded RPAS wing to become RPAS external pilot.

4. Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old mountaineer, achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the youngest ever Indian and the second youngest girl in the world to scale Mt Everest. Kaamya was accompanied by her father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, They both reached the summit at 8848 metres on May 20.
