1. Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s Monsoon Session will be summoned from August 3rd to 10th. The Punjab Cabinet has given its nod for convening the session during a meeting.
2. The Madhya Pradesh Assembly has passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill yesterday. The bill was passed on the second day of the monsoon session of the state assembly amid uproar by opposition parties.
3. The West Bengal government has approved the enhancement of monthly financial assistance under Social Welfare Pension Schemes for Old Age, Widow, and Disability Pensions from 1,000 rupees to 1,500 rupees, starting from the 1st of next month.
4. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the progress of Kharif sowing, monsoon conditions, fertiliser and seed availability, and the possible impact of El Niño. Chairing a review meeting in New Delhi, Mr Chouhan directed officials to closely monitor districts facing deficient rainfall and maintain regular coordination with state governments.
5. The National Highways Authority of India, NHAI, has introduced a comprehensive framework to facilitate sharing of National Highway infrastructure and operations data with premier government research institutions.
6. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reviewed enforcement measures to curb air pollution across the National Capital Region. During its Enforcement Task Force meeting, the Commission said its Flying Squads carried out 175 inspections between the 1st and 13th of this month, covering construction and demolition sites, industrial units and diesel generator set-related activities.
7. Minister of State for Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik has said that renewable energy installed capacity in the country has increased from over 76 Giga Watt in 2014 to over 288 Giga Watt as on 30th of June this year. In a written reply in the Rajya SabhaSabha, he said the installed capacity of Solar power is over 162 gigawatts, Wind power is around 58 gigawatts, Hydro power is 57 gigawatts, and Bio Power is over 11 gigawatts.
8. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay has announced that a high-level inquiry committee will be set up to investigate the tunnel collapse incident at the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) site in Samardung, Namchi district.
9. The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand resumed yesterday after a one-day suspension. The pilgrimage had been temporarily halted Monday as a precaution due to continuous rainfall and the risk of landslides along the pilgrimage routes.
10. National Highways Authority of India introduced a digital Local Pass facility on the RajmargYatra mobile application in July 2026. The facility allows residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza to buy a monthly pass for unlimited travel through that toll plaza.
11. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang presented the State Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly on 20 July 2026. The budget size is Rs 19,215 crore, with a net expenditure of Rs 18,455 crore after recoveries.
12. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued 1,331 commercial pilot licences (CPLs) in India up to 30 June 2026. The data was placed before the Rajya Sabha on 20 July 2026 by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol.
13. The Centre on Tuesday launched Mission Golden Spice, a ₹175.45-crore initiative aimed at transforming Meghalaya’s GI-tagged Lakadong turmeric into a globally recognised premium spice while strengthening the entire value chain and boosting farmers’ incomes.
14. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to distribute plots within a week to farmers who had lost their land to the Vikarabad industrial corridor.
15. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very rainfall over Gujarat Region, East Rajasthan and Madhya Maharashtra during the next two days. The Met department has predicted heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Vidharbha, West Rajasthan during the next three days.

1. At least 12 casualties have been reported so far after a section of the under-construction Head Race Tunnel (HRT) of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project collapsed yesterday at Samardung in Namchi district in Sikkim.
2. Assam’s flood situation has deteriorated further, with the death toll rising to 10 amid incessant rainfall and swelling rivers across the state.
3. Director General of Tripura Police, Anurag Dhankar, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his office on Monday (July 20, 2026). His body was reportedly found in the washroom adjoining his chamber at the police headquarters on Akhaura Road in Agartala around 11.40 a.m.

1. India’s N3X Labs has unveiled a mobile UAV-launching concept that uses a ‘shoot-and-scoot’ tactic to reduce crew vulnerability in contested environments, integrating a five-round Wrath UAV launcher onto a High Mobility Vehicle (HMV) for rapid deployment and relocation, Janes reported.
2. The Indian Army is reforming its Armoured Corps with the introduction of Shaurya Squadrons, embedding dedicated drone-equipped sub-units directly into tank formations. Designed to act as “digital wingmen,” these specialized teams provide immediate surveillance, electronic warfare, and loitering munition strikes, drastically reducing target-engagement times.

The Philippines has described the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system as providing it with “credible deterrence” in the South China Sea, according to Ambassador Josel F Ignacio.He emphasised that the acquisition of the missile system has been a milestone in India-Philippines defence cooperation, strengthening Manila’s ability to counter China’s growing presence in the contested maritime region.
