1. The Monsoon Session will commence today (20 July) and continue till the 13th of August. During the session, several important legislations are scheduled to be taken up for discussion and passage.

2. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has urged the opposition for smooth conduct of proceedings in the upcoming monsoon session of parliament. Speaking to media, Mr Rijiju appealed to all political parties to contribute and cooperate in ensuring the smooth functioning of this monsoon session.

3. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu embarks on 3-nation visit to Moldova, North Macedonia & Romania.

4. President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, met Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan in New Delhi yesterday. Zanzibar is the semi-autonomous region of Tanzania.

5. The Aadhaar App has crossed four crore downloads, underscoring the growing trust of residents in convenient and digital-first identity services. The Ministry of Electronics and IT said that the App has facilitated over 11 lakh address updates since its launch. It informed that the app has also enabled almost 49 lakh mobile number updates and residents have used the Biometric Lock or Unlock facility of the app more than 19 million times.

6. Andhra Pradesh notified the Common Zoning Regulations, 2026 on 18 July 2026 to create a uniform land-use and urban development framework across the state. The regulations apply to Master Plans, Zonal Development Plans and General Town Planning Schemes, and they exclude the capital city area.

7. Senior IAS officer Rajesh Lakhani of the 1992 Tamil Nadu cadre has been prematurely repatriated from his post as Commissioner (Joint Secretary level) of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under the Union Ministry of Education. Lakhani’s return to Tamil Nadu assumes significance as the incumbent Chief Secretary, M Sai Kumar, is due to retire on 28 February, 2027.

8. Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that non-communicable diseases have emerged as one of the country’s biggest public health challenges and called for a mass public movement against these diseases. He said this while addressing the launch of the book titled ‘UNBROKEN: My Battle with Cancer and the Will to Lead’ authored by cancer survivor and former Senior Adviser in the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, in New Delhi.

9. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has given approval for separate seating in the House for the 20 rebel TMC MPs who have joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). Shri Om Birla Birla has also given his approval to the merger of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs with the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. With the merger of the six MPs, the strength of the Shiv Sena has gone up to 13 from seven in the Lower House of Parliament.

The National Health Authority (NHA) on Saturday concluded the two-day National Review Meeting on Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in New Delhi. The meeting was held to review the progress of AB PM-JAY and ABDM, deliberate on key implementation priorities, showcase best practices from States and Union Territories, and chart the roadmap for the next phase of India’s health sector reforms.

11. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared the results of the Class X Second Board Examination, 2026.

12. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red colour warning for very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Uttarakhand.

Heavy rainfall is also expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and parts of North East India during the next two days.

Authorities on Sunday temporarily suspended the Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir as well as the pilgrimages to the Mata Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori shrines in Jammu after the India meteorological department (IMD) forecast of widespread rainfall across the Union Territory over the next few days.

1. The Delhi HC has declined activist Sonam Wangchuk’s plea to be transferred from Safdarjung Hospital to a facility, amidst his ongoing hunger strike concerning alleged NEET irregularities.

2. The Supreme Court issued notice in an SLP moved by State of Karnataka against the quashing of criminal proceedings against the e-commerce platform and its directors over the alleged online sale of a prescription drug without a valid license or doctor’s prescription.

3. The Supreme Court on July 17 granted interim protection from coercive action for 2 weeks to certain petitioners facing demolition proceedings concerning mosques, madrasas and dargahs situated near the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan, while permitting them to withdraw their writ petition to pursue appropriate remedies before the Rajasthan High Court.

4. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at six locations across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand in connection with a ₹1,109-crore bank fraud case.

Thousands gathered at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday (July 19, 2026) ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s planned march to Parliament, demanding resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, even as the Delhi Police issued a prohibitory order against marches, demonstrations, and assemblies of five or more people except at the designated protest site with prior permission.

6. In a stern warning amid rising concerns over manipulated documents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a strong advisory to students and parents regarding the submission of OMR sheets for scrutiny.

The agency revealed that many OMR sheets recently submitted for review have turned out to be fake or artificially generated, prompting closer monitoring of all complaints.

7. The Calcutta High Court has issued a significant status quo order, halting the demolition of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s Diamond Harbour constituency office in West Bengal amidst allegations of illegal construction.

1. Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma reviewed the operational preparedness of troops and the induction of next-generation weapon systems and advanced warfare technologies during a visit to a frontline division in the strategically important Ladakh sector over the weekend.

2. The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed four Rafale fighter jets, two C-17 transport aircraft, and more than 120 air warriors to Darwin, Australia, for Exercise Pitch Black 2026. The multinational air combat exercise is scheduled from 20 July to 7 August 2026 and is hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

3. The Indian Air Force IAF will start Exercise Pitch Black 2026 today at the Royal Australian Air Force RAAF Base Darwin. Scheduled from 20 July till 7th August, Exercise Pitch Black is the RAAF’s premier biennial multinational air combat exercise.

1. The Odyssey has concluded its three-day opening weekend at the Indian box office on a high note. After a solid Friday and an even stronger Saturday, the epic fantasy action film carried that momentum into Sunday as well, closing out the weekend with numbers that place it firmly among Hollywood’s biggest 2026 releases in India. By the end of the first weekend, the film had come close to the 60 crore mark, making the 100 crore net mark an easy target.

2. Music composer GV Prakash Kumar hit another milestone in his career by bagging the National Award for Best Music Direction (Background Score) for ‘Amaran’ at the 72nd National Film Awards. The film industry sent congratulatory messages from all quarters, and one message that stood out was from Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, who is GV Prakash’s maternal uncle.

3. After months of uncertainty due to a censorship battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), director H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan, starring actor-turned-politician Vijay in the lead role, is all set for release on 23 July.
