1. Prime minister Modi launched multiple development projects in Chandigarh on 17 July 2026 across healthcare, education, and road infrastructure. The package included hospital facilities at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and highway works linked to the Tricity Ring Road network.

2. PM Modi virtually inaugurated 75 redeveloped Amrit Bharat railway stations across the country, including Baramati and Nandura Maharashtra, and Mangalagiri, Rayanapadu and Cumbum railway stations in Andhra Pradesh under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

3. The Self-Enumeration, SE facility for Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) under Phase I of Census 2027 has commenced in Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

4. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta yesterday inaugurated 45 new Ayushman Arogya Mandir in New Delhi.

5. The Delhi government has approved the Delhi Start-up and Incubation Policy with the aim of giving a fresh push to innovation, research and entrepreneurship in the national capital. Under this policy, more than four hundred crore rupees will be invested over the next five years.

6. Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the White Rabbit technology-based Indian Standard Time dissemination facility at the Regional Reference Standards Laboratory in Bengaluru yesterday. The project is implemented under the ambitious vision of One Nation One Time initiative that envisages establishment of a uniform, highly precise and secure time standard across India.

7. The sacred Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Odisha’s Puri attained a significant spiritual milestone yesterday as the majestic chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath completed their ceremonial journey along the Grand Road, reaching ‘Saradha Bali’, the revered precinct near which the Shree Gundicha Temple is situated.

8. Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu reviewed the progress of FCV (Flue-Cured Virginia) tobacco procurement through a teleconference and directed officials to speed up purchases to ensure remunerative prices for farmers.

9. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a three-day visit to West Bengal. He will visit the BSF’s 18th Battalion at Seema Chowki in Jumagachh, where he will address a Prahari Sammelan, he will hold a series of high-level meetings at Uttar Kanya in Siliguri.

10. The Digital Forensics Laboratory at the National Forensic Sciences University, Goa Campus, has received Central Government recognition as an Examiner of Electronic Evidence under the Information Technology Act. The recognition strengthens Goa’s cyber forensic capabilities and will support law enforcement and the judiciary. NFSU Goa is only the second laboratory under the university and one of just 21 laboratories in the country to receive this recognition.

11. Gujarat has emerged as the top performer among India’s states and union territories in the Investment Friendliness Index 2026. It is followed by Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Odisha as well, as the top performers.

12. The Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is a 667 km access-controlled highway corridor under development by the National Highway Authority of India under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. On 17 July 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Packages 1 to 5, covering 157.92 km in Jind, Haryana, and Package 6, covering 30.9 km in Jalandhar, Punjab.

13. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that India–Japan cooperation on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (bullet train) project is progressing well. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Japan’s E20 (next-generation Shinkansen) train series is still under development and is expected to be provided to India only in the early 2030s.

14. Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat at Jind railway station in Haryana.

The India Meteorological Department, IMD, has issued a red-colour warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for the next two days. Heavy rainfall is expected to prevail over Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha and North-eastern states.

1. The Goa government has tightened regulations governing casino operations by prohibiting entry of persons below 21 years of age into casino gaming areas.

2. The government has notified the commencement of the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Act, 2025, with an aim to strengthen the country’s legal and institutional framework for clean sport. The legislation provides a comprehensive statutory foundation to prevent doping in sport, safeguard the rights of athletes, and uphold the integrity of sporting competition in accordance with internationally accepted anti-doping standards.

3. Central Government set to preparing to introduce the Prevention of Insult to National Honour (Amendment) Bill by the Central Government during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament scheduled from July 20, 2026. The proposed legislation seeks to make it a punishable offence to insult or prevent the song, “Vande Mataram”, from being sung. If the Amendment is passed, it will protect the song just like the National Flag, National Anthem, and other national symbols from the punishments of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act.

1. Four people, including three school students, were killed in a tragic train accident in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.

2. In Jammu and Kashmir, forty-seven Amarnath Yatra pilgrims had a narrow escape after the bus they were travelling in caught fire on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Karool in Ramban district. No injuries reported.

3. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has expressed deep sorrow over the school van accident near Karnasubarna railway station in West Bengal yesterday. He announced an ex-gratia payment of 10 lakh rupees for the family of each deceased individual in connection with the collision between the school van and the passenger train. Three people were killed, including two school children, when the Nimtita-Katwa passenger train hit a school pool car and a cyclist.

1. INS Malvan is the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built for the Indian Navy. The ship was designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi and was delivered to the Navy on 31 March 2026.

2. The Indian Air Force contingent reached Australia on 17 July 2026 for Exercise Pitch Black 2026. The deployment includes four Rafale fighter jets, two C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft, and more than 120 Air Warriors.

3. The Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 ‘joint naval exercise’ will take place from July 20 to 23, 2026. Organized by the Indian Navy together with the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF); the exercise is being conducted under the supervision of the Indian Navy led Combined Task Force 154.

This initiative is bringing together the CMF partner nations. The purpose of the exercise is to ensure the security of the maritime industry. Furthermore, the exercise will facilitate the advancement of the navies mingling with each other.
