1. The government has approved 31 more applications under Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with projected investment of seven thousand 877 crore rupees. These approvals will result in a total production of electronics components worth 82 thousand crore rupees and are also expected to generate over nine thousand 500 employment opportunities.

2. Education Minister Pralhad Joshi yesterday held a meeting with the Secretary, Department of Higher Education, DG of National Testing Agency (NTA) and other senior officials in New Delhi.

3. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has informed that the progress of area coverage under Kharif Crops has recorded more than one thousand lakh hectare area as of 14th of this month.

4. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign culminated yesterday. The fifth year of Har Ghar Tiranga brought the Tiranga closer to millions of Indians, with people across the country coming together to hoist the National Flag, join Tiranga Yatras and sing Vande Mataram.

5. The government will soon constitute a high-powered committee on banking to achieve the vision of a Viksit Bharat. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this after inaugurating the two-day Public Sector Bank Conclave in New Delhi.

6. The Enumeration Phase of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Delhi concluded yesterday.

7. Special initiatives will be undertaken under the Skill India Programme PM-SETU to promote Bengal’s traditional folk industries, including handloom and Dokra craft. Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, independent charge, Jayant Chaudhary said this at a programme in Kolkata.

8. In Bihar, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar attended an interaction programme with around 500 Booth Level Officers at Nalanda University at Rajgir. The programme mainly focused on making the electoral process more effective, transparent, accessible, and citizen-centric.

9. The Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh confered the National Anubhav Awards, 2026 to 15 selected awardees in New Delhi. The awardees have contributed to the Nation-building and have been part of various government projects like, Passport Seva Kendra, repealing of old rules and formulation of new rules, Technological adaptation in the administration and accounting.

10. BJP National President Nitin Nabin announced the new team of National Office Bearers of the party. He has appointed 13 National Vice Presidents, including Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda, Sardar Manpreet Singh Badal and Rekha Verma.

11. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has paid tributes to Madan Lal Dhingra on his martyrdom day yesterday.

12. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta released Hindi Biography of Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi yesterday evening. It has been written by former Rajya Sabha MP Y Lakshmi Prasad.

13. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red colour warning for very heavy rainfall to extremely heavy rainfall over Jharkhand.

1. The Supreme Court refused to interfere with the Election Commission’s decision to fix 2002 as the base year for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Sikkim.

2. Thr Supreme Court has ordered stricter bail conditions for foreign nationals accused in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, amid concerns over fake sureties.

3. The National Testing Agency NTA announced re-test for three papers of the UGC-NET examination, English, Commerce and Sociology following complaints about several errors in these papers.

NTA said, the English paper will be held on 9th September from 9 am to 12 noon in Shift 1, while the Commerce paper will be conducted the same day from 3 pm to 6 pm in Shift 2. The Sociology paper will be held on 10th September from 9 am to 12 noon in Shift 1.

4. In Jharkhand, following a 24-day protest by JPSC and JSSC aspirants, the state government has cancelled the 2024 JSSC-CGL examination and all competitive examinations conducted by the TDPL agency. Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the decision yesterday evening after chairing a special Cabinet meeting.

Flood situation continues to remain grim in north Odisha, with six districts affected and 126 villages still marooned amid rising rivers and continuing rain. Around eight lakh people have been affected, while nearly 42-thousand hectares of cropland have suffered damage.

1. Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth was conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army at an event at Kathmandu on Monday.

Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the rank at a special investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. General Seth is on an official visit to Nepal from August 17 to 19.

2. India and Nepal share a long-standing defence partnership shaped by an open border, deep cultural ties, and regular military cooperation. The relationship covers treaty-based security links, Gorkha recruitment, joint exercises, training, equipment support, and veteran welfare.

3. Over 200 Indian peacekeepers deployed with the UN mission in South Sudan have been awarded the prestigious UN medal for their exceptional service.

4. The Indian Army contingent has departed for Thailand today to participate in the 15th edition of the India-Thailand Joint Military Exercise MAITREE-XV (2026). The exercise, commencing tomorrow, will conclude on the 31st of this month.

5. India’s Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth about Rs 1,943 crore with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. on 17 August 2026. The agreement covers the lease of two MQ-9B Sea Guardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems for the Indian Navy for 30 months.

1. RBI announced an overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo auction of up to Rs 1.5 lakh crore for Tuesday, August 18, amid its review of prevailing and evolving liquidity conditions.

2. The Income Tax department has come up with a one-time voluntary disclosure facility called the Foreign Assets of Small Taxpayers – Disclosure Scheme (FAST-DS) running from August 16 to December 31, 2026. The disclosure includes foreign bank accounts, properties, jewelry, stocks, securities, and other foreign assets up to certain monetary ceilings. Taxpayers with the unreported foreign income/assets have a chance of regularising to some of their omissions.

The country’s first virtual zoo has been started in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, a 14-D cinema theatre and a virtual jungle safari have also been opened at the Indore Zoo.
