1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi today. The three-day conference will serve as a flagship platform, bringing together the global semiconductor and electronics ecosystem to foster collaboration, drive innovation, strengthen manufacturing capabilities, attract investment, and develop future-ready talent. The event will bring together over 600 exhibitors, 300 international companies, and delegations from more than 50 countries

2. PM Vishwakarma Scheme Completes Three Years with 30 Lakh Registrations: The PM Vishwakarma scheme was launched on 17 September 2023 for artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 traditional trades. The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹13,000 crore for FY2023-24 to FY2027-28 and provides support through skill training, toolkits, credit, and market linkage measures.

3. Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, along with Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, yesterday launched the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign. The theme of this campaign is Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.

4. BJP will run a month-long nationwide Seva Sankalp Abhiyan from today to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, with a focus on highlighting his commitment to public service and encouraging people, particularly the youth, to undertake acts of service. The campaign will also mark 25 years of Mr Modi taking oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001.

5. The Government has introduced an exemption from the requirement of Registration-cum-Membership Certificate or Certificate of Registration for small-value export consignments up to three lakh rupees. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, the measure is aimed at reducing the compliance burden for new and small exporters and facilitating exports through Postal, Courier and other emerging channels.

6. The Union Cabinet has approved the increase in the wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under the Employees Provident Fund Organisation from 15 thousand rupees to 25 thousand rupees per month. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement while addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi.

7. Delhi has been ranked top performer in States and UT in Electric Mobility adoption as per the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025. The Index was released by the NITI Aayog in New Delhi yesterday, which outlines both the policy framework and implementation outcomes for e-mobility at the sub-national level.

8. A central team, led by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited flood-affected areas of Bihar yesterday to assess the situation. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and senior state government officials also visited.

9. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the India Net Zero Portal and the National Action Plan on Climate Change Dashboard on 16 September 2026 in Mumbai. Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh launched the two digital platforms on World Ozone Day 2026.

10. Kumik village in Zanskar was declared Ladakh’s first designated Heritage Village on 15 September 2026. The declaration was made by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, during the launch of the Ladakh Zanskar Festival 2026.

11. The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 15 September 2026 for integrated computer labs-cum-smart classrooms in 29 functional Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Rajasthan.

12. Today September 17 — Several parts of India are observing Vishwakarma Puja today, with local holidays and celebrations varying by state and district.

13. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu and parts of North East India. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat today.

LEGAL REPORT

1. A Special NIA Court at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, sentenced all ten convicts to death in the 2013 Jhiram Valley Maoist attack case. The convicts have been given 30 days to appeal against the verdict in the High Court. On 25th of May in 2013, 27 people, including several senior Congress leaders were killed and 35 others were injured in Maoist attack in Jhiram Valley in Bastar district.

2. The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a batch of approximately 271 civil appeals and special leave petitions filed by the Union of India challenging orders that granted the disability element of service pension to retired armed forces personnel. The two-judge Bench of Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe delivered the judgment on 15 September 2026.

The controversy concerned entitlement to disability pension after Release Medical Boards had classified the disabilities as “neither attributable nor aggravated” (NANA) by military service. The Armed Forces Tribunal and several High Courts had overturned those classifications and granted relief. The Centre then approached the Supreme Court.

While two managed to come out, six others drowned. It is suspected that loose mud in the lake led to the tragedy.

1. Chief of the Army Staff, General Dhiraj Seth, is on an official visit to Russia from 16 Sep till the 18th of September. General Seth will hold discussions with the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces, Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, on issues of mutual interest, including professional military cooperation and training.

2. The 22nd edition of the India-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ kicked off at Auli Foreign Training Node in Uttarakhand with contingents of 600 personnel each from the two countries participating. The exercise is simultaneously being conducted at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.

3. 🤝 India–Japan Exercise Veer Guardian 2026
Veer Guardian 2026 is continuing at Jodhpur, with Japanese F-2 fighter aircraft participating alongside the IAF. The exercise is focused on improving air-combat interoperability and operational cooperation.

4. ✈️ HAL to deliver new aircraft to IAF
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is scheduled to deliver two LCA Mk-1 trainer aircraft and the first batch of HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force on Friday. HAL will also hand over four Dhruv NG helicopters to Pawan Hans.

5. Sanjukta Parashar Becomes First Woman to Head CRPF CoBRA
Sanjukta Parashar, a 2006-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, became the first woman officer to head the Central Reserve Police Force’s CoBRA unit in September 2026. She took charge as Inspector General of the 10-battalion CoBRA formation from 1996-batch IPS officer Danesh Rana.
