1. The Kerala Drug Control Department has taken a proactive step to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through Operation Amrith (Antimicrobial Resistance Intervention For Total Health). This initiative aims to curb the overuse of antibiotics in the state by conducting surprise raids in pharmacies and detecting over-the-counter (OTC) sales of antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription.

2. The Supreme Court on January 16 upheld the registration of offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and remand order issued against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the skill development ‘scam’ case.

1. As per a new NITI Aayog report, 24.82 crore Indians have risen out of multidimensional poverty in the last 9 years. It states that multidimensional poverty in India reduced from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23.

2. In a strategic move to bolster support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Yes Bank has introduced SmartFin, an advanced digital Supply Chain Finance (SCF) platform developed in collaboration with Veefin Solutions. The initiative reflects Yes Bank’s commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing its digital offerings, particularly in the realm of working capital efficiencies.

7. EaseMyTrip CEO Nishant Pitti recently addressed the company’s decision to indefinitely suspend flight bookings to the Maldives following a diplomatic dispute. Pitti acknowledged the risk of forgoing revenue and potential userbase alienation but expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from 95% of Indian users, resulting in a 280% increase in app downloads.

In his post, Nishant Pitti further said: “President of Maldives won election on plank of “India Out” campaign. They wanted India & its tourist OUT, since last few years. Being 2nd largest tourism provider to Maldives, we merely fecilitated what majority Maldivan asked for. This new Maldivian govt has been clearly pro-China, and it’s only fair that they earn money from Chinese tourist rather than Indians now.”

1. The Indian Army is bringing a new policy to let some officers stay longer in their specialty field. Normally, Lieutenant Colonels who are promoted to Colonel must change roles to command assignments. But the new rules let these officers keep working in their expertise area if they want.

Applying to Key Technology Areas
The policy applies to Colonels specializing in key areas like artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, space, IT, weapons, and more. It lets about 30-40% of promoted Lieutenant Colonels choose to skip command posts. Instead, they can stay as Colonels in their specialty for 2 more years.

2. Vice Admiral AN Pramod assumed the pivotal role of Director General Naval Operations (DGNO) on January 15, 2024.

3. Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty took over as Commandant, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala on 15 Jan 24. The Flag Officer was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1989 and is a graduate of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington (2005) and National Defence College, New Delhi (2017).
