1. India approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line project on 13 May 2026. The project is estimated at about ₹20,667 crore and will add around 134 km of railway line in Gujarat. It is planned as India’s first semi high-speed rail project developed with indigenous technology.

2. N. Rangasamy was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the fifth time on 13 May 2026. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan at Lok Nivas in Puducherry. He leads a National Democratic Alliance government in the Union Territory, which began its second consecutive term in power.

3. Union Cabinet approved a ₹37,500 crore Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects on 13 May 2026. The scheme covers coal and lignite gasification projects and includes financial incentives, project selection through competitive bidding, and milestone-linked disbursal.

4. A nationwide employment and livelihood reform has been announced under the “Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025”, set to come into force from 1 July 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen rural infrastructure, ensure livelihood security.

5. The South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone is scheduled to begin operations on 1 June 2026 with its headquarters in Visakhapatnam. The Ministry of Railways issued a gazette notification on 4 May 2026, and SCoR has been constituted as India’s 18th railway zone.

6. The Assam Government will introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the State Assembly on May 26. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement while addressing the media after chairing the first Cabinet meeting of his second term as Chief Minister.

7. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, on Wednesday unveiled the logo of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The logo depicts a Trishul, a representation of the famous Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik, and the River Godavari in the shape of a Shiv Linga.

9. In Tamil Nadu, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government led by C. Joseph Vijay won the floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, with 144 MLAs voting in favour, demonstrating a clear majority in the House. Meanwhile, 22 MLAs voted against the confidence motion.

10. A major national initiative has been launched in New Delhi on 11 May 2026 under the leadership of PM Modi. The “Sehat Mission” aims to promote a healthier future by integrating agriculture, nutrition, and healthcare into a unified framework, focusing on holistic well-being.

11. St Stephen’s College in Delhi appointed Professor Susan Elias as its first female principal on 12 May 2026. She will take charge as the 14th principal of the 145-year-old college on 1 June 2026. St Stephen’s College

12. The famed nagaradhana (worship of naga or sacred snake) centre at Kukke Sri Subrahmanya temple in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, that witnesses more than one crore footfalls annually, will soon add at least 1,000 rooms for visiting devotees. 1. Honorable Chief Justice of India Surya Kant announced formation of powerful committee to improve the court infrastructure across the country. This move will solve the long standing problems like poor facilities, outdated buildings, digital gaps and delays in handling of cases. This committee will be headed by Supreme Court Judge Justice Aravind Kumar and will create the national roadmap for courts overhaul.

2. India’s apex court has launched the “One Case One Data” initiative along with an AI-powered chatbot named “Su-Sahayak” to modernize judicial services. The move aims to digitally integrate case data across all court levels, from taluka and district courts to the Supreme Court.

3. NEET paper leak case: Mumbai court grants two-day transit remand of accussed Shubham to CBI.

4. The West Bengal government has decided to hand over the cases related to the teachers’ recruitment, municipal recruitment and cooperative services recruitment scams to the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI.

1. Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow at the age of 38 on 13 May 2026. His death has caused shock in political circles across Uttar Pradesh. He was largely away from active politics and was associated with business interests.

He was half brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav.

2. Former Mohun Bagan president Swapan Sadhan Bose, popularly known as Tutu Bose, passed away at 79 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Kolkata.

3. In Uttar Pradesh, rain along with dust storms and lightning has claimed 43 lives in the last 24 hours.
