1. e-KYC registration has been made mandatory for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in Puducherry for ration purchase under the Central Bank Digital Currency scheme from 26 February 2026. The scheme uses the digital currency e₹ for food subsidy delivery and replaces the earlier Direct Benefit Transfer-Cash model in the Union Territory.

2. Kolkata police commissioner Ajay Nand on Sunday inspected the state secretariat, Nabanna, and adjoining areas ahead of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s first administrative meeting scheduled for May 11, officials said.

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani has been appointed as India’s next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Anil Chauhan on 30 May 2026.A highly decorated officer with over four decades of distinguished service, he will also serve as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Military Affairs.

2. Paras Defence has unveiled the Paras-SK50, a new indigenous tactical drone designed for surveillance and combat roles, equipped with advanced sensors and a weaponised payload. The system was showcased at the North Tech Symposium 2026 in Prayagraj, signalling India’s growing emphasis on autonomous battlefield technologies.

3. India has marked a major breakthrough in hypersonic missile development with the Defence Research & Development Laboratory of DRDO successfully conducting an extensive long-duration test of its Actively Cooled Full Scale Scramjet Combustor.The test was carried out at the Scramjet Connect Pipe Test Facility in Hyderabad on 9 May 2026.

4. India has successfully conducted the flight-trial of an advanced Agni missile equipped with the Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha, on 8 May 2026.

5. Fast Patrol Vessel Achal has been formally commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard, representing a significant addition to the service’s operational fleet.The vessel, part of the Adamya-class series, is the fifth in a line of eight fast patrol vessels being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited.

6. Senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Ismail Ahmad, a close associate of Hafiz Saeed, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on the anniversary of Operation Sindoor.

7. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan has been appointed as the next Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, headquartered in Mumbai. He will take charge of one of the Indian Navy’s most strategically important commands, responsible for safeguarding India’s western maritime front and key sea lanes in the Arabian Sea. He is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
