3. Indian Railways has stepped up cleanliness and upkeep of long-distance trains. As part of the initiative, 11 long-distance trains with journey durations exceeding 40 hours have been identified for enhanced monitoring, with particular emphasis on maintaining cleanliness and passenger amenities throughout their journey. Railway Board has written a letter to all the Zonal Railways in this regard.

The Ministry of Rural Development has notified the Schedule of Permissible Works under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025, providing for 375 permissible works under the new rural works framework. The new Schedule represents a 41 percent expansion over the 266 works under the previous framework.

10. The National Statistics Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has conducted the first-ever all-India survey on household travel. The survey covered 14 thousand 274 villages and 10,377 urban blocks and collected information from around four lakh 92 thousand households, covering over 20 lakh 34 thousand persons.
11. Voting concluded peacefully for bye-elections to five Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, along with a Lok Sabha seat in Assam. Polling took place for Madurantakam and Dharapuram seats in Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavady in Puducherry, and Rejinagar and Nandigram in West Bengal. Voting was also held for Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam. The counting of votes will be taken up on Friday.
12. The Union Cabinet approved a ₹10,000-crore commitment for the SME Growth Fund on 6 October 2026. The fund is meant to provide patient, growth-oriented equity capital to viable and scalable small and medium enterprises in India.
13. IIT Ropar launched the digital learning platform AVNI – Grow with Nature on 6 October 2026 through its Centre of Excellence in AI for Digital Agriculture, ANNAM.AI. The app is designed for children to learn about plants, crops, food, and agriculture through surroundings, activities, and artificial intelligence tools.
14. The Odisha government has launched what it described as India’s first dedicated MICE Incentive Portal to promote the state as a destination for business tourism, corporate events and investment.
The portal was launched by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Tourism portfolio, during the Odisha Travel Bazaar 2026.

1. In Noida, Uttar Pradesh — Sleeper Bus Fire
A sleeper bus carrying 32 passengers caught fire. The driver stopped the bus after noticing trouble, allowing everyone to evacuate safely. All 32 passengers escaped without injuries. The bus was traveling from Delhi to Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
2. *In Mumbai, Maharashtra — BEST Bus Depot Fire* : A major fire at the Anik bus depot on 5 October destroyed 12 newly acquired air-conditioned buses. No injuries were reported, and the cause was under investigation.

1. The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the next Chief of the Air Staff. He is scheduled to assume office on 31 October 2026, succeeding the current Air Chief Marshal.
2. The Ministry of Defence signed a ₹661.5-crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace for fire-control systems and launchers for Indian Navy warships. The agreement aims to strengthen the Navy’s indigenous maritime capabilities.
3. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a maiden live jump of an advanced high-altitude parachute and a flight trial of a high-altitude platform. These developments support India’s indigenous aerospace and defence research.
4. Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 is the second edition of the Indian Air Force’s multinational air exercise. It is being held from 26 September to 12 October 2026 at Air Force Station Jodhpur and adjoining airbases in Rajasthan. Germany has deployed an Airbus A400M military transport aircraft for the exercise.
5. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh launched the first indigenous Fleet Support Ship (FSS-1), named ‘Surya’, at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, on 6 October 2026.
