1. The Parliament has passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, with Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday. Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai moved the bill, which aims to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969.
2. India launched a new Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan on International Clouded Leopard Day, observed on 4 August 2026. The plan was prepared under the Government of India-GEF-UNDP initiative and was released during the 91st meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board of Wildlife in Coimbatore.
3. India’s installed power generation capacity is projected to reach 874 GW by 2031-32. As of 30 June 2026, the total installed capacity stood at 548,858 MW, or about 548.86 GW. Non-fossil fuel sources accounted for 54.18% of the installed capacity on the same date, above the Nationally Determined Contribution target of 50% for 2030.
4. Union Ministry of Finance proposed amendments to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, on 3 August 2026 to reintroduce Merchant Discount Rate on select digital payment modes. The proposal seeks to remove the zero MDR provision under Section 10A, which currently bars banks and payment system providers from levying charges on online transactions, including Unified Payments Interface and RuPay debit card payments.
5. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed draft rules to introduce two-wheeled ambulances in India. The draft framework seeks to create a separate legal and technical basis for registration, design, safety, and operation under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
6. The Lok Sabha has passed the Appropriation (No – 3) Bill, 2026. The Bill was moved by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It provides for the authorisation of the appropriation of money from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet amounts spent on certain services during the financial year ended on the 31st March 2023 in excess of the amounts granted for those services for that year.
7. IIT Hyderabad and Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. launched ANUGYAN, the Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme, on 3 August 2026. The three-month residential programme is India’s first industry-academia course for engineers and industry professionals in the civil nuclear energy sector.
8. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed Kanwar pilgrims in Haridwar by showering flower petals and performing Charan Prakshalan during the Kanwar Yatra. Flower petals were also showered from a helicopter along the route from Har Ki Pedi to the Kanwar Yatra corridor.
9. The Election Commission has revised the schedule of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Delhi. According to the revised schedule the house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers will continue till 17th of this month.
10. In Punjab the digitisation of enumeration forms during the door-to-door enumeration phase under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 has been completed.
11. Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudarshan Reddy, has directed officials to fix errors in voter enumeration forms as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process. He asked them to correct missing photos, wrong birth dates, gender mistakes, and signature errors to ensure accurate voter data.
12. Summer Annuals of Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan to be open for the public from August 16th of this month. People can visit the Amrit Udyan till September 15. During this period, it will remain open from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the last entry at 5 PM.
13. The Jammu and Kashmir government is integrating nearly 50,000 migrant families into the National Food Security Act (NFSA) database.
14. Department of Posts released a commemorative postage stamp on 3 August 2026 to mark the birth centenary of Satish Gujral, an Indian artist, sculptor, and architect. The stamp was unveiled at Bikaner House in New Delhi by Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
15. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the designation of Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh as India’s 101st Ramsar Site.
16. Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi has emphasised that there will be no reduction of food grains to any State and beneficiary under the National Food Security (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
17. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief at the passing of Former Bihar Governor DY Patil yesterday.
18. In Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the disbursement of interim financial assistance of 15,000 rupees each to flood-affected families of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts at a programme held in Dibrugarh.
19. In Keralam, red alert for very heavy rainfall is in force in eight of the state’s 14 districts. Orange alert has been issued for four districts, A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in five districts on Wednesday.
20. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red colour warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya. Heavy rainfall is also expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and parts of North East India during the next two days.

1. The Supreme Court directed the Reserve Bank of India to prepare and circulate a standard operating procedure (SOP) for dealing with mule accounts and bank accounts linked to cyber fraud.
2. In Tamil Nadu, opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has been released on bail after interrogation at the Chengipatti Police Station after being arrested in Chennai this morning on complaints of indecent remarks in his speech. The complaint was filed at Thanjavur East police Station.
3. Punjab Police has busted two ISI-backed cross border terror modules with the arrest of nine individuals, including four juveniles. Three pistols along with nine live cartridges and four petrol made bottle bombs have been recovered from their possession. Their preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were also involved in conducting surveillance of security installations.
4. The students’ protest in Ranchi demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations entered its eleventh day.
5. The Supreme Court directed the central government to develop a pilot project linking fuel sales to valid third-party motor insurance, proposing that uninsured vehicles be denied fuel at petrol pumps until coverage is obtained.

1. An Air India flight AI 2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi, experiences a brief in-flight turbulence-related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude. Later, the aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers and crew were safely disembarked. The Air craft was carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members.
2. Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan, former Chief Justice of the Madras and Andhra Pradesh High Courts, died on 2 August 2026 at the age of 87. He was born on 11 November 1938 near Chandigarh and began his legal career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1964.

1. Vice Admiral Manish Chadha, AVSM, VSM, assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations on 03 Aug 26. An alumnus of the 78th course of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Manish Chadha was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1991.
2. Indian astronaut Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, call sign “Krish,” is currently undergoing a year-long strategic leadership program at the US Air War College in Alabama, strengthening his credentials as India prepares for its maiden human spaceflight under the Gaganyaan mission.
3. Astrobase Space Technologies will unveil India’s first fully integrated 80‑ton‑class Full Flow Staged Combustion (FFSC) rocket engine on Friday, 8 August 2026.
4. In a major step toward total self-reliance in aviation, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are drafting a joint proposal to create a homegrown turboprop engine.
This ambitious project, which will seek funding from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), aims to power the indigenous Saras Mk2 light transport aircraft and lay the groundwork for future High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs).
5. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is actively advancing its drone warfare capabilities with a new class of affordable, air-to-ground (A2G) munitions.
Designed specifically for integration with Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) and High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as upcoming Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), these weapons offer highly accurate strike options while preserving the drone’s limited payload capacity.

1. L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore secured an ultra-mega offshore contract from ADNOC Offshore on 4 August 2026. The contract value is over ₹15,000 crore and covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of multiple offshore facilities.
2. Agratas, the battery arm of Tata Group, is developing proprietary lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology for its factory at Sanand in Gujarat. The company is also setting up a pilot production line for domestically designed LFP cells and a new research facility in Bengaluru for battery chemistry development.
