1. Ministry of Education has approved five Centres of Excellence for studies in classical languages. Five Centres of Excellence for studies in Classical Assamese, Classical Bengali, Classical Marathi, Classical Pali and Classical Prakrit. The initiative will provide dedicated institutional support for advanced academic research, preservation and digitisation of linguistic and literary heritage.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Baramati on November 3 to inaugurate the newly developed ‘Prerna Sthal’, which features a four-tonne statue of Lord Buddha, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar announced.

3. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has called on the Shipping Corporation of India to play a leading role in making India self-reliant and globally competitive in shipbuilding and maritime capacity.

4. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said that the Narendra Modi government is developing a complete ecosystem around cattle rearing, from converting cow dung into biogas and organic fertiliser to processing dairy products and providing market access, to give a new boost to the rural economy. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for greater use of Marathi in the field of Artificial Intelligence and emphasised the need to make knowledge and information resources widely available in Marathi on digital platforms. Speaking in Mumbai at the inauguration of ‘Classical Marathi Language Week’ to mark ‘Classical Marathi Language Honour Day’, he also stressed the need to create high-quality Marathi content on a large scale for OTT platforms and social media.

6. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that India’s economic strength and resilience have been built over the past decade through a combination of fiscal prudence, infrastructure investment, banking reforms, improved delivery mechanisms and consistent reforms.

7. India has launched the GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme with a total outlay of Rs 23,731 crore, aiming to transform the country’s compressed biogas sector over the next decade.

8. A high level Central team has arrived in Bengaluru yesterday to assess the drought situation in Karnataka. Led by Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ajit Kumar Sahu, the team will tour the drought affected regions till October 6th. Divided into three teams, they will visit Tumkuru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Ballari, Mysuru, Chamrajanagara, Mandya, Yadgir, Raichur.

9. Bara Bhangal, one of Himachal Pradesh’s remotest settlements, has been formally declared a “Natural Farming Gram Panchayat”, giving official recognition to its traditional, chemical-free farming practices.

10. As part of the state government’s ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited remote Kasha Pat village in the Rampur Assembly constituency of Shimla district. He stayed overnight at the residence of local resident Supan Das. Villagers accorded him a warm welcome with traditional musical instruments and dressed him in a traditional attire. Sukhu announced Rs 2 crore for the construction of a new school building at Kasha Pat village and said efforts were underway to start a bus service from Kasha Pat to Rampur via Taklech.

1. Indian Naval Ships (INS) Sahyadri and Kulish have concluded their participation in the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME 2026), conducted in the Philippines under the theme ‘Anchored in Trust, United at Sea’.

2. The Ministry said that the participation of INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish reaffirmed the Indian Navy’s continued commitment to engagement with partner maritime forces, in consonance with India’s Act East Policy and the vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR).

3. The IAF Chief said the service does not currently plan a separate drone force; instead, unmanned systems are to be integrated into existing operational structures.

4. India is reportedly nearing a decision on Project-75(I) for six conventional submarines and is also considering additional Scorpene-class submarines. The proposal is aimed at strengthening India’s underwater naval capability.

5. Colonel Seema Singh Retires from Indian Army, Leaves Legacy of Leadership and Fight for Women Officers’ Rights : Col Seema Singh, one of the Indian Army officers closely associated with the long legal battle for greater equality and permanent commission for women officers, hung up her uniform on Thursday, 1 October 2026, bringing to a close a distinguished military career marked by leadership, perseverance and service.

Renowned Carnatic percussionist and konnakkol legend Tiruchi R. Thayumanavan passed away at the age of 98 on October 2, 2026, in Tiruchirappalli. Thayumanavan received the Kalaimamani award in 1994 for his skill in Konakkol, a kind of note recitation that produces the effect of verbal percussion.
