1. PM Modi conducts a roadshow in Puducherry with UT’s Chief Minister Rangaswamy and Home Minister Namassivayam on 3 April 2026.

2. The Government has reassured that it is making all efforts to ensure availability of Petrol, Diesel and LPG in the country. It has advised citizens to avoid panic purchase of Petrol and Diesel as well as unnecessary booking of LPG.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Keralam today to campaign for the Assembly elections.

4. In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, the BJP has announced the candidates for 27 seats it will contest as part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance. The list includes Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan, former Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundarrajan, and state BJP chief Nainar Nagendran. In the 2021 Assembly elections, BJP had contested 20 seats and won four.

5. The Ministry of Education has granted the ‘deemed to be university’ status to National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This decision was taken by the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and it is placing the NCERT under the distinct category of the institutions.

6. Sandeep Rai Rathore, a 1992 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new DGP and HoPF ahead of the April 23 Assembly election to the state. Previously, he was DGP Training, Chennai.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert in view of expected thunderstorms for five days in Telangana.

1. The Election Commission ordered the immediate suspension of a Joint BDO of Khandaghosh Development Block for allegedly canvassing for TMC. The Commission has also initiated disciplinary action against the BDO immediately on the recommendation of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal.

2. The Telangana High Court allowed the Indian Navy’s VLF radar project in Vikarabad forest while keeping a PIL pending for six months to monitor compensatory afforestation progress and ensure compliance with environmental conditions.

3. The Election Commission has directed all States and Union Territories to grant a paid holiday to voters on the polling day for upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. It said all eligible voters, including daily wage and casual workers, must receive a paid holiday with no wage deduction. Employers violating the order will face penalties.

4. A 40-member team from National Investigation Agency, NIA, arrived in West Bengal’s Malda district to investigate the siege of seven judicial officials at the Kaliachak-II block development office earlier this week. Authorities said the investigation will also examine a subsequent attack on the officials as central forces attempted to rescue them.

5. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha as the party’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha and appointed its Punjab MP Ashok Mittal as the replacement. The AAP has also informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that Raghav Chadha should not be allotted time to speak in parliament.

6. Police have identified two suspects in connection with the Punjab BJP office blast, sparking a manhunt and raising concerns about political tensions in the region.

1. INS Taragiri, the fourth of the seven multi-mission stealth guided-missile frigates built under Project 17 Alpha, be commissioned and inducted into the Indian Navy on Friday (April 3, 2026) at the naval dockyard of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

2. The DRDO has initiated the development of a next-generation Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) to replace the aging Prithvi series (whose liquid-fuel system requires complex, time-consuming pre-launch fueling). The new missile will feature modern solid propulsion, advanced guidance, improved accuracy, and faster response capabilities while retaining payload flexibility for 500 kg and 1,000 kg warheads.

3. India’s defense exports surged to a record ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025, a 62.66% increase from ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024. Public sector firms led with a 54.84% share, while the private sector contributed 45.16%.

4. The Indian Army is developing an indigenous aircrew protection vest for helicopter pilots. It will be a fully integrated, lightweight, and modular combat aviator system providing ballistic and fragmentation resistance, along with flame and thermal protection against post-crash fire hazards.

5. India’s Astra Mk1 Extended Range (Astra-ER) missile will enter active testing between May and June 2026. The trials (conducted using Tejas Mk1A and Su-30MKI) aim to validate its expanded engagement envelope of up to 160 km against highly maneuverable aerial targets.
