ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

Suman Kalyanpur (born as Suman Hemmady; 28 January 1937 – 31 May 2026) was an Indian playback singer who is most notable for her work in Hindi cinema.
Her voice has often been mistaken to be that of Lata Mangeshkar due to their similar tone and texture.
Legendary playback singer Suman Kalyanpur passed away on 31 May 2026, at her residence in Mumbai due to age-related health issues.
She recorded songs for movies in several languages besides Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Angika, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Odia and Punjabi.
The Golden Era Peak: Her career peaked during the 1960s and 1970s, largely because of a fallout between Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. The two top artists refused to sing together, allowing Kalyanpur to record over 140 popular duets with Rafi.
Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur stepped away from the film industry in 1986 because of changing public musical tastes, shifting industry trends, and the desire to pursue other personal interests like gardening, cooking, and crafts.
