1. Byelections to three Assembly constituencies in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will be held on July 30, the Election Commission announced on Thursday (July 2, 2026).
2. Ministry of Panchayati Raj will organize a National Workshop of State Panchayati Raj Ministers in New Delhi today to deliberate on the recommendations of the Sixteenth Finance Commission.
3. Odisha Cabinet approved the Deep Sea Fishing Mission on 1 July 2026. The mission is a flagship initiative of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department under the administrative control of the Odisha government. The mission will run for 10 years, from 2026 to 2036.
4. The Ministry of Women and Child Development invited nominations for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar Awards (PMRBP) 2026 to recognise the extraordinary achievements of children aged 5 to 18 years. The last date for submitting applications is the 31st of July.
5. The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 marks a major step towards ensuring employment, strengthening rural livelihoods and accelerating the development of villages across the country, Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said.
6. India approved its first Private Point-in-Space (PinS) Instrument Approach Procedure for helicopter operations on 1 July 2026. The procedure was approved for Undavalli Heliport in Andhra Pradesh and was developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) before clearance by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
7. Government to expand oil refining capacity to 300 million metric tonnes amid West Asia crisis. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.
8. Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog Dr Ashok Kumar Lahiri said that globalising Ayurveda is essential not only for promoting India’s traditional knowledge but also for creating jobs, boosting exports and strengthening the country’s soft power.
9. The grand finale of the second edition of the National Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition was held during Seafood Expo Bharat 2026 in Kochi. Organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the event showcased the skills of ten trained seafood processing professionals in preparing value-added seafood products for export markets.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the first batch of pilgrims for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra yesterday reached the twin base camps at Nunwan in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district under tight security. The 57-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine was formally flagged off from Jammu in the early hours by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
11. The Ministry of Civil Aviation yesterday launched the AIR SUVIDHA 2.0 portal for Ebola health screening at points of entry international airports across the country. Developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services and Delhi International Airport Limited, the upgraded digital platform aims to strengthen health surveillance of international travellers through real-time coordination among health, immigration and surveillance agencies for early detection of at-risk passengers.
12. The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into the entire Delhi, some more parts of Gujarat, remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and some parts of Rajasthan. IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in the parts of western and central India for the next two to three days.
Heavy rainfall forecast in five Telangana districts on July 3: According to IMDs latest bulletin, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Nizamabad districts.

1. The Government has debunked a claim circulating on social media that the Union Finance Minister is promoting an investment platform and promising citizens a monthly income of over 20 lakh rupees in return for an initial investment of 22 thousand rupees. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau said that the claim is fake.
2. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized a huge consignment of banned cough syrup from a goods train in Agartala, Tripura.
3. The government has refuted a digitally manipulated video of former Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, which is being circulated on social media by Pakistani propaganda accounts. The video falsely claims that General Dwivedi resigned in protest and handed over command to General Dhiraj Seth.
4. India’s IT Ministry has issued notices to Telegram and Signal regarding their username features, citing concerns about fraud and impersonation.
This action follows a similar notice to WhatsApp, which was asked to pause its planned username feature.
5. The investigation into the death of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal has entered another crucial phase after accused Siya Goyal agreed to undergo a polygraph, or lie detector, test. Investigators believe the examination could help resolve conflicting statements given by Goyal and her co-accused, Chetan Chaudhary, in the high-profile murder case.
6. A country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the bag of two passengers during a routine security check at Mandi House Metro station, New Delhi on Thursday, officials said.
The weapon was detected by CISF personnel during baggage screening, following which the two men were immediately detained and handed over to the local police for questioning.

Heavy rain in Mumbai has left at least two people dead and pushed civic and emergency teams into high alert, after the city reported building damage, tree falls, short-circuit complaints and localised flooding across several areas. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said more than 120 rain-related incidents were recorded as intense showers continued over a 24-hour spell.

3. India and Malaysia reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral military cooperation during the 12th Sub-Committee Meeting held in New Delhi.
The Sub Committee Meeting serves as the principal military-to-military consultative mechanism between the two countries and precedes the India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation Meeting, which is held at the level of the Defence Secretary.
4. Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet Ships Udaygiri, Kavaratti, and Shakti reached the Changi Naval Base in Singapore on Wednesday.
5. Indian Naval Ship Trikand has successfully responded to a piracy attempt on merchant vessel MV Golden Arsenal in the Gulf of Aden. The vessel, while transiting from Aden in Yemen, reported an attempted pirate attack around 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti. The incident was reported through the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region, following which INS Trikand, deployed in the region, was tasked to intercept the merchant vessel. The vessel, carrying 21 crew members, including one Indian national.

1. The Reserve Bank of India appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director with effect from 1 July 2026. He previously served as Adviser-in-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management at the RBI and will continue to oversee the same department in his new role.
2. On 1 July 2026, the Union Cabinet approved two highway infrastructure projects with a combined cost of ₹14,114.81 crore. The projects include an 8.1-km six-lane road tunnel in Delhi and a 117.7-km access-controlled highway in Uttar Pradesh.
