1. The President Smt. Droupadi Murmu confers Padma awards during civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

2. Uttarakhand will embark on its famed Chardham Yatra : This year, the Char Dham Yatra will begin on May 10, with the opening of three of the four shrines, including Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath. The doors of Badrinath will open on May 12.

3. Campaigning for the remaining phases of Lok Sabha elections has intensified. Voting in the fourth phase will take place on 13th of this month in 96 seats spread across ten states and union territory. As many as 1,717 candidates from 10 states and union territory are in the fray for this phase.

4. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman is on a day-long visit to Jharkhand, where she addressed a gathering of businessmen of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries on investment avenues in Eastern part of the country.

5. The Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh visited the hail storm-affected areas of the Bishnupur district and assured to provide compensation to affected families.

6. Hindu population shrunk 7.8%, PM-EAC study: India has seen the second most significant decline of 7.82 per cent in the majority population (Hindus), only next to Myanmar, within the immediate South Asian neighbourhood from 1950 to 2015.

A working paper of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, EAC PM, said India has witnessed an increase in the share of Minority groups – Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Sikh and a decline in the share of Jain and Parsis.

7. Former chief minister and Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu said he would scrap the Land Titling Actwithin 24 hours of assuming power in Andhra Pradesh.

8. Heavy rainfall is likely to lash Rayalaseema region on May 13, the day Andhra Pradesh goes to elections. Moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in coastal Andhra Pradesh and some parts of north coastal Andhra on that day.

AKSHAYA TRITIYA , also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is an annual Jain and Hindu spring festival. It falls on the third tithi of the bright half of the month of Vaisakha. Akshaya means never diminishing in Sanskrit, and Tritiya means third day. The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Akshaya Patra is also associated with the festival of Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya Patra is a divine copper vessel that is an eternal source of food. In the Mahabharata, Lord Surya, or the Sun god gifts this divine vessel to Yudhishthira so that the five brothers and their wife, Draupadi, would not go hungry during their 12-year exile in the forest.

1. The Supreme Court will deliver its order on granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam on 10 May.

2. Air India Express has reinstated 25 of its senior crew members who were terminated in the case related to the cancellation of flights. The cabin crew withdrew the strike after which the airline agreed to look into issues raised by them. Around 80 Air India Express flights were cancelled following mass sick leave taken by several crew members without prior information.

3. In Kerala, many Air India Express flights to the GCC countries remain cancelled. Flights from Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to Kannur International Airport were cancelled by the airline. Flight services from the airport to Sharjah, Muscat, Dammam and Abu Dhabi also cancelled.

4. CBI arrests 11 people including two cardiologists of Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in connection with a bribery racket.

5. The CBI court at Hyderabad on Thursday reserved orders in the petition filed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking approval to go to London from May 17 for a week. Jagan Mohan Reddy was required to seek court permission as he is on conditional bail in the disproportionate assets case registered by the CBI.

6. A man identified as Pravin Mishra allegedly fell victim to a honey-trap orchestrated by an ISI operative. Mishra allegedly disclosed crucial details concerning drones developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

7. A Special Court for Elected Representatives on Thursday adjourned to May 13 the bail plea hearing of JD(S) MLA H D Revanna in connection with a kidnap case.

1. HDFC Bank, in collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, has allocated Rs 19.6 crore in grants to support 170 social startups in FY24.

2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the lifting of restrictions on Bank of Baroda’s BoB World mobile application, permitting the bank to onboard customers immediately. The two pilots jumped from the aircraft with parachutes as it caught fire. They were rescued from Karnaphuli river and admitted to BNS Patenga Hospital in Chittagong. While undergoing treatment at the hospital, one of the two pilots, Squadron Leader Asim Jawad died.
