1. Work on six major road infrastructure projects, including three corridors connecting Urban Extension Road II (UER II) with the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Delhi-Katra Expressway, aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), will begin between October this year and April next year, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced.
2. On 21 May 2026, the West Bengal government made the singing of Vande Mataram compulsory in all recognised madrasas across the state during morning assemblies before classes begin. The directive applies to government model madrasas, government-aided madrasas, and unaided madrasas under the Directorate of Madrasa.

8. India has started work on two infrastructure projects linked to the Chenab river system with an estimated cost of nearly ₹2,600 crore. Telangana has emerged as one of the first six states to secure Central funding for urban infrastructure initiatives under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), The Union Ministry of Urban Affairs has approved six major projects across 26 urban local bodies in the state with a total outlay of Rs 5,681.04 crore, including Central assistance of Rs 1,420.26 crore. This is out of projects worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore cleared under the Rs 1.5 lakh crore UCF.

1. The Calcutta High Court has set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. The three-member SIT will be led by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Director for the Eastern Zone. The Court has asked the team to file its report by June 25.
2. A civil society delegation from Ladakh, including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk who was released from detention under the National Security Act (NSA) on March 14, is all set to meet Union Home Ministry officials on Friday (May 22, 2026).

1. GENERAL Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, will be the Reviewing Officer for the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the landmark 150th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) on May 30. Retired IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr Kiran Bedi, will be the chief guest for the convocation of the course, which will be held on May 29. The150th course includes the third batch of female cadets passing from the academy.
2. General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), visited the Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS) to review ongoing initiatives related to digitalisation, artificial intelligence, systems integration, and technology-driven transformation within the Indian Army.

1. Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL), an arm of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), on Wednesday launched its first company-owned company-operated (CoCo) retail fuel outlet — under the brand name Sooper — near its Manali refinery in North Chennai.
2. Following the latest price revision issued on 18 May, the cost of a standard 14.2-kg household cylinder remains steady, with the domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) costing ₹913 in Delhi. A a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has now breached the ₹3,000 mark in the national capital.
3. National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) announced RAINMUMBAI on 20 May 2026 as India’s first SEBI-approved exchange-traded weather derivatives contract. The contract is a cash-settled futures instrument linked to rainfall data for Mumbai during the monsoon months of June to September.
