*RANG PANCHAMI* is a Hindu festival celebrated just five days after the colourful festival of Holi. It is observed on the ‘Panchami’ (5th day) of the Krishna Paksha (the waning phase of moon) during the ‘Chaitra’ month of the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated with full fervour in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, and some regions of North India.
2. The Election Commission has issued a notification banning the conduct, publication or publicising of exit polls between 7.00 am of April 19 and 6.30 pm of June 1 when votes will be cast for the Lok Sabha and four state Assembly polls.

The updated Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2024, now require that biodegradable plastics not only degrade through biological processes in specific environments but also leave no microplastics behind.
5. In a big blow to the Congress in MP and ahead of first phase of Lok Sabha polls, sitting congress MLA Kamesh Shah (51) from Amarwada assembly seat joined BJP.
6. I.N.D.I.A bloc on Friday sealed the seat-sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will contest 26 of the state’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress will field candidates on nine seats. The Left parties will contest five seats.

1. The post-mortem on gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari confirmed that he died of cardiac arrest, a hospital source said on Friday.
Ansari, a former MLA who had been booked in more than 60 cases, died Thursday night after he was rushed to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail, where he was lodged.
2. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday released fresh images of Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, the suspects in the Rameshwram Cafe blast that left 10 injured on March 1 in Bengaluru.

In Telangana, A former DCP of Commissioner’s Task Force, a wing of Hyderabad Police was on Friday arrested by the city police in connection with the case of phone tapping and destroying certain computer systems and official data. Radhakishan Rao, former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), was remanded to a local prison.

Hours after Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunit Kejriwal launched a campaign to seek public support, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched a scathing attack and compared her to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and said she is perhaps preparing to hold the post of her husband.

1. Procurement of services through the GeM portal witnessed a staggering 205% growth in the current financial year 2023-24, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has closed the current fiscal year on a high note, crossing the milestone of Rs 4 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).
2. Composite materials producer Jindal Advanced Materials (JAM) has collaborated with Italy’s MAE S.p.A. to invest ₹2,700 crore to set up a carbon fibre plant of 3,500 metric tons annual capacity.
3. Recently, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have introduced trading in the T+0 rolling settlement cycle in the equity segment on an optional basis. This new settlement cycle allows for same-day settlement of trades, in addition to the existing T+1 settlement cycle.
4. Axis Bank has announced the introduction of digital US dollar fixed deposits (FDs) for NRI customers at the IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) at GIFT City, Gujarat. The bank has become the first to offer a digital journey for opening deposits at GIFT City.
5. The Adani Group has announced the start of the first phase of the world’s largest single-location copper manufacturing plant at Mundra in Gujarat. The facility, owned by Kutch Copper (a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd), will help reduce India’s dependence on copper imports and support the energy transition.
