2. Biju Janata Dal founding member and six-time Cuttack Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi on Thursday, dealing a big blow to the Odisha’s ruling party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

3. The Manipur government which had declared that March 31, which is Easter Sunday, as a “working day” has retracted its order on Thursday following protests by the Christian community.

The state government on Wednesday said in a notification that March 30 and 31 will be working days in government departments despite being Saturday and Sunday “for smooth functioning of offices in the last few days of financial year. The order was withdrawn later following protests.

4. Lok Sabha Election 2024: Supriya Shrinate Denied Lok Sabha Ticket Amid Kangana Ranaut Remarks Row. In its eighth list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has denied a Lok Sabha ticket to Supriya Shrinate from Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

5. The Congress will release its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls in Jaipur on April 6. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra handed over responsibilities for elections to party leaders and workers.

6. Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, leading the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has voiced concerns over a concerted opposition campaign against him. During a public meeting in Kadapa district, part of the ‘Memanta Siddham’ election campaign bus tour on March 27, Reddy highlighted the coalition of opposition parties, including TDP, Janasena, BJP, Congress, certain media houses, and notably, two of his sisters, united against him.

7. Telangana police’s new eagle squad is almost ready and will become operational soon. Recently, the smart eagles that have been trained to bring down drones gave a demonstration at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy in Moinabad. Three birds painstakingly trained over the last three years intercepted drones with precision. One of the eagles was fitted with surveillance cameras to take images of targets.

8. In Telangana, BRS party secretary general K. Keshava Rao, declaring that he was leaving the BRS and will be joining the Congress soon.

9. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Wednesday that she has declined the offer extended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the upcoming polls, saying that she “doesn’t have the kind of money” to stand in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

10. Piyush Anand, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading the NDRF.

1. A court in New Delhi on Thursday extended the Enforcement Directorate custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till April 1 in the excise policy case.

Delhi high court on Thursday rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the removal of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal from the Delhi chief minister’s post following his arrest in an excise policy-linked money laundering case and said it cannot declare a breakdown of the constitutional machinery in the national capital.

2. Jailed gangster-turned- politician Mukhtar Ansari died of a cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, Ansari, 63, was a five-time MLA from Mau Sadar seat and was behind bars in UP and Punjab since 2005. He had over 60 criminal cases pending against him.

He was sentenced in eight cases since September 2022 by different courts of Uttar Pradesh and was lodged in the Banda jail.

3. Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra campaigned in her Krishnanagar constituency of West Bengal on Thursday, giving a miss to the Enforcement Directorate summons that asked her to appear for questioning at the ED office in New Delhi.

4. The Delhi high court on Thursday rejected petitions by the Congress challenging the initiation of tax reassessment proceedings against it for a period of four years by tax authorities.

5. Baba Tarsem Singh, head of Karsewa at a gurudwara, is shot dead by two bike borne assailants at Nanakmatta in Uttarakhand.

6. Almost a month after a blast rocked the popular Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has identified the bomber seen in multiple CCTV grabs. The agency has named Mussavir Shazeeb Hussain as the man who placed the bomb in the waiting area of the eatery on March 1. The agency has also identified Abdul Matheen Taha as a key conspirator.

1. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct Gaganshakti-2024, a 10-day wargame starting from April 1st, aimed at testing its preparedness to counter potential threats from Pakistan and China simultaneously. This exercise, expected to surpass the scale of the 2018 all-air force drill, will evaluate integrated war-fighting strategies and tactics in collaboration with the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.

2. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) conducted the maiden flight of the Tejas Mk1A light combat aircraft on Thursday. This advanced version of the LCA Mk-1, already in service with the Indian Air Force (IAF), is a significant milestone for the HAL. HAL announced that the Tejas Mk1A’s successful first flight, undertaken by Aircraft LA5033, took off from their facility in Bengaluru and lasted 18 minutes. Chief Test Pilot, Gp Capt K.K. Venugopal (retd), piloted the aircraft.

3. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in certain districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for an additional six months, effective from 1 April 2024.

4. India and the US have participated in military-to-military exercise, “Ex Tiger Triumph 2024,” involving their tri-services. The 14-day exercise, which began on March 18, 2024 aims to enhance interoperability, strengthen bilateral relations, and refine capabilities in humanitarian aid, disaster relief (HADR), and sub-conventional operations.

5. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday defended the Agnipath scheme underlining that the future of youths joining as Agniveers would not be impacted, even as he said the government was ‘open’ to bring any change in it ‘if required’.

6. Amid border tensions, India and China exchanged views on ways of achieving complete disengagement and resolving the issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of India-China border areas, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

This comes as India-China held its 29th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) on Wednesday in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
