1. Holika Dahan holds a great significance for Hindus. This year it falls on Sunday, 24 March 2024. . A day before Holi, Choti Holi or Holika Dahan is observed where a bonfire is lit and people gather around it to pray and symbolically destroy all things negative be it bad habits, unhealthy thoughts and challenges in life.
Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, falls on Monday, March 25, 2024. The preceding day, March 24, marks Holika Dahan.
2. The Congress party has announced its fourth list of 46 Lok Sabha candidates, featuring prominent names such as Digvijaya Singh, Ajay Rai, and Karti P Chidambaram.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh will contest from Rajgarh, while Ajay Rai has been nominated to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi. Karti P Chidambaram, son of Congress leader P Chidambaram, will run from the Shivganga constituency in Tamil Nadu.
3. Six former Himachal Pradesh Congress MLAs, who were disqualified after they defied a party whip and cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha polls last month, joined the BJP on Saturday.
By-elections are scheduled in all the six Assembly segments represented by the rebel Congress leaders and the BJP could move to destabilise the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in the state if the numbers turn in their favour after the results. By-elections could also be held on the three other seats represented by the independents who have resigned from the Assembly.
4. Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughters, Rohini Acharya and Misa Bharti, are likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Rohini Acharya could contest the election from Saran and Misa Bharti from Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituency.
5. Ahead of the Lok Sabha election in Rajasthan, former MP Gopal Singh Idwa and several other leaders joined the BJP on Saturday.
6. In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow administration has banned the sale of alcohol in the district on March 25, 2024 on the occasion of the Holi festival. Along with liquor, the administration has also imposed a ban on the sale of toddy, cannabis (Bhang) or any type of intoxicating substance.
7. Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the central government demanding for the immediate release of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to tackle the water crisis in the state. CM accused the Centre of neglecting the state’s request for the release of funds.
8. On account of the Holi festival, Delhi Metro will start its services at 2:30 pm on Monday. Metro services will not be available till 2:30 pm on all lines of the Delhi metro, including Rapid Metro and Airport Express Line,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.

11. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will release a new syllabus and textbooks for Classes 3 to 6 while there will be no change in the curriculum and textbooks for other grades for the academic year 2024-25 commencing from 01 April.
12. Veteran Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Odisha minister Dr Damodar Rout passed away here at a private hospital on Friday morning. He was 83.

1. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday moved the Delhi high court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam but the court is unlikely to grant an urgent hearing.
2. The Lokpal had asked the CBI to probe the cash-for-query allegations against TMC leader Mahua Moitra and submit a report within six months.
What is cash for query?
A “cash for query” case involves accusing an individual of accepting payment in exchange for posing questions in Parliament.
Moitra has been accused of accepting cash to ask questions on behalf of businessman and friend Darshan Hiranandani.
3. PUNJAB HOOCH TRAGEDY : At least 21 people have died in Punjab’s Sangrur after consuming suspected spurious liquor. After the incident, the Punjab government has constituted a “high-level” Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
4. In Telangana, Enforcement Directorate officials raided the residences of BRS MLC K. Kavitha’s nephew Meka Sai Saran and sister-in-law Akhila for allegedly participating in the Rs 100 crore cash transactions in the Delhi liquor scam.

1. Indian Navy is on high alert as another Chinese satellite and missile tracking vessel, Yuan Wang-03, has entered the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), joining three similar “research” ships already present in the area. This development comes as India has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for a no-fly zone over the Bay of Bengal due to a potential ballistic missile test from Abdul Kalam Island on April 3-4.
Defence officials have confirmed that Yuan Wang-03 is under surveillance, with the Indian Navy utilising P-8I aircraft.
2. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar met the Indian Air Force pilots of C-17 transport aircraft on Saturday who were involved in an anti-piracy mission in the Indian Ocean under Operation Sankalp.
The Navy chief met captain of the flight, Wing Commander Akshay Saxena, along with co-pilots Wing Commander Lokesh Manchanda and Squadron Leader Lovepreet Singh and lauded their efforts.
3. Somali pirates, who were captured by the Indian Navy, were handed over to Mumbai Police on Saturday after due formalities of Customs and Immigration.

5. The Army in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday cancelled a seminar, which was aimed to raise awareness about the Uniform Civil Code and other topics after a backlash from the political parties.

The Delhi High Court has declined a petition by a Major General of the Military Intelligence (MI) wing of the Indian Army who sought the creation of a post of Lieutenant General for the MI Corps and also rejected the prayer that an officer of the MI Corps should be the Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI).
In his petition, Major General S S Khara had prayed the court to issue an appropriate writ, order or direction under Article 226 of the Constitution of India directing the respondents to quash and set aside the promotion policy dated 23 December 2017, to the extent that it excludes the Intelligence Corps of the Indian Army from being considered for promotion to the rank of Lt General from the Non-General Cadre Staff Stream (NGCSS) vacancies.
