1. Maldives Urges Indians To Visit In ‘large Numbers’ : Amid increased geopolitical tensions between India and Maldives, the archipelago nation has urged the nationals of its giant neighbour to visit the country in large numbers to shore up the country’s faltering economy. Maldivian Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal in an interview on Monday (May 6) also highlighted historical relations between the two nations.
2. The Foreign Affairs Minister of Maldives, Moosa Zameer will be on an official visit to India on the 9th of May. During his visit to New Delhi, he will meet External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar for discussions on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
3. India on Tuesday (May 7) blasted the Canadian government for ‘glorifying violence’ after pro-Khalistan imageries were displayed at a religious event in Malton, Toronto.
A Nagar Kirtan parade, a religious procession, was held by the Ontario Gurdwara Committee where violent imageries targeting Indian politicians, including PM Narendra Modi, were displayed. India expressed its concerns over inaction by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government against what it calls ‘intimidation by radical elements.’
4. Delegations from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other member states attend OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir meeting in Banjul. Member states call for early and peaceful resolution to Kashmir dispute along the lines of OIC’s agenda UN resolutions, says foreign ministry.
5. Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green OAM, on Monday emphasised that there are no plans to increase ‘Quad’ membership, adding that it is “very important” for the countries to frame their relations with China.

1. Russian President Vladimir Putin has been sworn for a record-breaking fifth term at Andreyevsky Hall in the Grand Kremlin Palace.
2. The former United States President Donald Trump returned to court on Tuesday (May 7) for the 13th day of his historic criminal trial. The court heard from key witness adult film actor Stormy Daniels as she detailed the 2006 alleged sexual encounter with Trump. The former president is on trial based on the charges stemming from hush money allegedly paid to Daniels, 45, ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
3. Israeli forces on Tuesday (May 7) seized control of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. Tanks pushed into Rafah, marking it Israel’s first ground incursion into the southern Gazan city. The Rafah crossing is the main entry point for humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
4. In the past week, the Sun has emitted two significant solar flares from a newly identified sunspot, AR3663, causing impacts such as radio blackouts in several parts of the world. These flares occurred within six hours of each other, signaling an increase in solar activity as part of the Sun’s 11-year magnetic cycle, during which it experiences a polar reversal.
5. Jose Raul Mulino, a conservative candidate and former Minister of Public Security, was declared the winner of the presidential election in Panama on 5 May, 2024. He secured 34% of the vote.
6. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday urged the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to raise more funds from newer sources for assistance of the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh. She said since the assistance for Rohingyas has declined, the IOM should look for new partners to raise more funds for them.
7. Ukraine’s state security service said it caught two agents for Russia plotting the assassination of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
