1. The third edition of the India-Nepal Economic Partnership Summit 2024 aimed to create a platform to discuss the bilateral economic partnership agenda and to further open new avenues of business engagements in the key sectors of the economy.The Summit, organised by the India-Nepal Centre of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI).

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conveyed the importance of exploring innovative avenues and revitalising the partnership between India and Japan as the two nations celebrate the 10th year of their special strategic and global partnership.The remarks were made during the 16th India-Japan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue held in Tokyo.

3. Members of the Indian community in Dhaka joined the launching of the “Chalo India-Global Diaspora Campaign” on Thursday at the High Commission of India in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the tourism campaign from Srinagar to rope in the Indian community living abroad.

4. Panama has become the 97th member to ratify the International Solar Alliance. Panama handed over the Instrument of ISA Ratification, during the meeting of the Ambassador of Panama to India, Yasiel Burillo with Joint Secretary (Economic Diplomacy), Abhishek Singh in New Delhi on Thursday.

5. Maldives will not renew an agreement with India to conduct hydrographic surveys and plans to acquire the facilities and machines required to do the exercise by itself, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has announced.

6. The Maldivian defence force on Thursday said it will have operational authority over the helicopter given by India to the island nation and the civilian crew that will pilot it. the Principal Director of Plans, Policy, and Resources Management for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Colonel Ahmed Mujuthaba Mohamed said.

He emphasised that the government of President Mohamed Muizzu has decided not to permit any foreign troops to remain stationed in the Maldives beyond 10 May 2024.

1. Sweden on Thursday became the 32nd member of NATO in the shadow of the war in Ukraine, ending two centuries of official non-alignment and capping two years of torturous diplomacy.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Thursday hailed his country’s entry into NATO as a “victory for freedom,” as it turned the page on two centuries of non-alignment following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

2. CHINESE ENGINEER ARRESTED FOR STEALING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SECRETS IN U.S.A : The US Justice Department announced the arrest of 38-year-old Leon Ding, or Linwei Ding, on Wednesday and detained him in Newark, California, charging him with four counts of trade secret theft.

3. CHINA CALLS FOR ‘PERMANENT’ UN MEMBERSHIP FOR PALESTINE : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday voiced Beijing’s support for Palestine to be made a full member of the United Nations.

4. Pakistan United Nations Ambassador Munir Akram said that no forced deportations of Afghans were taken out of Pakistan and emphasized that 98 per cent of people went back to Afghanistan voluntarily.

5. The Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), Paank, stated that 33 documented cases of enforced disappearances were reported across various areas of Baluchistan, highlighting a troubling surge in enforced disappearances and military actions in the region.

6. Israeli forces arrest 250 terrorists holed up in Khan Yunis residential towers. Members of the IDF’s Commando Brigade working with the elite Shayetet 13 unit raided terror infrastructure in the city’s Hamad Towers district.

7. A Russian missile struck close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis while they were visiting the Black Sea port city of Odesa on Wednesday.

8. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently said that the Muslim countries could introduce a common currency, like the European Union (EU), to boost trade and commerce among them.

9. Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, an influential minority leader, has been sworn in as a provincial minister, making him the first Sikh to occupy a ministerial position in post-Partition Punjab.

Belonging to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, Arora has returned to the Lahore provincial assembly for the third term after winning the February 8 polls.
