1. PM Modi has arrived in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a short while ago. During his two-day visit to Bishkek, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with leaders of SCO member countries. He will also attend the 26th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO, on the first of September.
2. India and Uzbekistan today announced to elevate their mutual Strategic Partnership to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership level. The Central Asian country also agreed to establish a framework for long-term supply of uranium to India and discuss the sites of the mining for rare earth minerals.
3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Uzbekistan’s supreme state award, the Order of Oliy Darajali Dustlik, by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent.
4. India emerged as a major exporter of gasoline to Russia in July and August 2026, when Indian refiners shipped nearly 1 million barrels of petrol to meet Russian fuel shortages.
5. India has finalised its first uniform minimum standards for mortuary and post-mortem infrastructure under the National Council for Clinical Establishments, which functions under the Directorate General of Health Services. The standards are issued as the Clinical Establishment Act Standards for Mortuary and apply to public and private hospitals through state and Union territory authorities.
6. BRICS member countries will meet during the 18th BRICS Summit to be held in India between September 12 and 13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, during India’s chairmanship in BRICS in 2026. The theme of the Chairmanship of India in BRICS is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” which is a people-first theme based on the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “Humanity First.”

1. Nepal has issued fresh alert for flood in Bhote Koshi River. It has urged residents living along the river in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts to remain cautious. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) of Nepal has reported an increased flood flow in the river.
2. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched on 30 August 2026 at 7:26 a.m. EDT aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The $4.3 billion observatory separated from the Falcon Heavy upper stage 31 minutes after liftoff and began a three-month journey to its science orbit near the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 2, about 1 million miles from Earth.
3. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are scheduled to hold the first ministerial and committee meeting of their new defence alliance in Istanbul, Turkey, on 31 August 2026. The alliance was established on 7 August 2026 through the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
4. General Zhao Zongqi was removed from the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on 26 August 2026. He also lost his membership in the CPPCC and his post as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
5. The death toll from flash floods in Nepal rose to 788 while more than 2,500 people still remain missing.
Bodies have been recovered from all eight affected districts, with Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, and Nawalparasi West reporting the highest fatalities.
