1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke at the 7th India-US Forum in Delhi on Saturday. He stated that the deliberations of the India-US Forum showcase the trust and openness which characterise the ties between the two nations.

2. The outgoing Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, met Binaya Pradhan, the new Consul General of India in New York on Saturday.

3. India and France are trying to move forward on elements related to putting in place a financing mechanism and localisation component for the 9,900 MWe Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district.

4. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, unveiled its manifesto ahead of the February 8 general elections, emphasising the restoration of Article 370 as a key step for normalising ties with India. The manifesto also stated that India-Pakistan relations should be anchored in mutual respect and a shared vision for regional stability and economic growth.

5. Chinese President Xi Jinping has offered to ‘break new ground’ to give a fillip to the China-France ties, days after French President Emmanuel Macron’s high-profile visit to India during which the two countries unveiled an ambitious defence roadmap besides intensifying cooperation in the strategic Indian Ocean and the Indo-Pacific region.

1. Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister, Anwarul Haq Kakar on Saturday acknowledged that the Baluchistan people are not merely dissatisfied with Pakistan, but are seeking an independent state, The Baluchistan Post reported on Saturday.He stated this in an interview and addressed the complex issue of enforced disappearances in Baluchistan.

2. The people in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are showing anger and resentment against Islamabad as they have been treated as second-class citizens for the past several decades.While addressing a rally in Muzaffarabad, political activists in PoK openly expressed their anger and sorrow against the Pakistan Army and the regime.

3. Iran said on Sunday that it has successfully launched three satellites into space, the latest in a programme that the West says improves Tehran’s ballistic missiles. The state-run IRNA news agency said the launch also saw the successful use of Iran’s Simorgh rocket, which has had multiple failures in the past.

4. Three US troops were killed and dozens injured in a drone attack on base in Jordan. United States President Joe Biden condemned the Iran-backed militant groups and vowed to hold the perpetrators to account.

While the United States has thus far maintained that Washington is not at war in the region, it has carried out strikes targeting Houthis in Yemen that have been attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

5. In Turkey: One killed in armed attack on Italian church in Istanbul.

6. North Korea fired “several unidentified cruise missiles” off its east coast on Sunday (Jan 28), said South Korea’s military amid a rise in tensions between the two countries.

North Korea’s reported launch on Sunday comes days after it claimed to have tested its new strategic cruise missile dubbed ‘Pulhwasal-3-31’ which it said was currently under development.

7. The Maldives parliament witnessed an unusual scenario on Sunday when leaders of the ruling party and the Opposition came to blows over President Mohamed Muizzu’s new cabinet.

The viral videos showed the lawmakers not just hitting each other with kicks and blows, but also some members pulling each other down from the podium.
