1. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that the crew of a seized Portuguese-flagged ship linked to Israel which included Indians was granted consular access and was expected to be freed, The container vessel MSC Aries had a 25-member crew including 17 Indians. One of the Indians, a woman, was freed and she returned home on April 18.
2. The World, the largest privately owned residential mega yacht, will be arriving in Visakhapatnam – its first foray to the Port City – on a two-day visit on April 28. The sojourn is part of The World’s 2024 journey to five continents, including Antarctica, Africa, Australia, Asia and America.

A UK national arrested for his alleged involvement in last year’s attack on the Indian High Commission in London is a Sikh of Afghanistan origin who went to London in the year 1995 and started a grocery store, according to reports, Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow, ran a grocery, liquor and tobacco store called Strawberry Local Group Ltd in Greater London and had come to India in December last year after a visit to Pakistan.
6. A Pakistani teenager has got a new lease of life after receiving a heart transplant at a hospital in Chennai. The 19-year-old, identified as Ayesha Rashid, from Pakistan’s Karachi had been sick since 2019. She received the heart from a 69-year-old Indian donor from New Delhi.
7. Gina Justus, a teacher at Our Own English High School, Sharjah Girls’ Branch, has been named the regional winner for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in the 2024 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards. Justus, originally from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has been working in the UAE since 2005 and was recognised for her outstanding mentorship and dedication to charity.

1. Lebanon-based and Iran-backed Hezbollah said on Saturday (April 27) that they targeted locations in northern Israel with drones and guided missiles in response to the cross-border Israeli strikes that killed three people, including two of its members.
The Israel Defense Forces said that the country’s Iron Dome air-defence system “successfully intercepted a suspicious aerial target that crossed from Lebanon into the area of Manara in northern Israel”.
2. Columbia University senate has passed a resolution proposing a task force to oversee “corrective actions” in connection to the administrative policies. This comes amid the escalating tensions at Columbia University and other campuses regarding protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.
3. Russia-Ukraine War: Ukraine pulls back US-provided Abrams tanks from front lines to avoid the growing threat from Russian drones.
4. An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck the Bonin Islands of Japan on Saturday afternoon. The epicentre was located off the west coast of the islands, about 875 km south of Tokyo.
5. Taiwan reported renewed Chinese military activity near the island with 12 aircraft crossing the sensitive median line of the Taiwan Strait. According to Taiwan’s Defence Ministry, on Saturday, it had detected 22 Chinese military aircraft, including Su-30 fighters, of which 12 had crossed the median line to Taiwan’s north and centre.
6. Philippines on Saturday denied a Chinese claim that the two countries had reached an agreement over an escalating maritime dispute in the South China Sea.
7. The US and China held a series of meetings in Beijing, with both sides drawing red lines for each other. The countries agreed to continue working together on certain issues, moving forward on repairing bilateral ties.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is on a three-day visit to China, met President Xi Jinping, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other Senior Chinese officials.
8. Bangladesh and Thailand on Friday signed five bilateral documents for visa exemption, cooperation on energy, tourism and customs matters and negotiation of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
9. Yemen’s Houthis said on Saturday their missiles hit the Andromeda Star oil tanker in the Red Sea, as they continue attacking commercial ships in the area in a show of support for Palestinians fighting Israel in the Gaza war.
