1. US tariff risk for Indian exports: A new US sanctions law has raised concerns for Indian exporters because it gives the US President authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries buying Russian oil.

2. BJP National President, Nitin Nabin yesterday met High Commissioner of Canada to India, Christopher Cooter in New Delhi. In a social media post, Mr Nabin said that during the meeting he briefed Mr Cooter on BJP’s grassroots organisation and the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. They also discussed the positive momentum in India-Canada relations.

3. India yesterday dispatched a fresh tranche of 11 tonnes of relief material to Nepal, including medicines, forensics supplies, tents, hygiene kits, sleeping bags and other essential supplies.

4. Hansraj Singh Verma has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba. The Ministry of External Affairs announced the appointment on 18 September 2026, and he is expected to take up the assignment in Havana.

1. 🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran–US: Iran has communicated conditions for restarting negotiations with the United States amid continuing tensions in the region.

2. 🇳🇬 In Nigeria: Police used tear gas during protests in Minna following the reported deaths of miners in custody.

3. 💥 Pakistan blast: An explosion at a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines in Pakistan was reported to have killed at least 21 people and injured more than 80.

4. NASA expanded its Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contract with SpaceX on 18 September 2026 through a 946 million modification. The revised agreement adds three more crewed Dragon flights, named Crew-15, Crew-16 and Crew-17, for missions to the International Space Station (ISS). The total value of SpaceX’s CCtCap contract has risen to about 5.92 billion, and the contract period runs through 2030.

5. The United Nations appointed U.S. agriculture official Luke Lindberg as the new Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) on 18 September 2026. The appointment followed confirmation by the WFP Executive Board and a joint announcement by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Qu Dongyu.
