1. Applicants seeking citizenship under Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, will have to submit an affidavit declaring whether they hold a valid or an expired passport from Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh, according to an amendment to Citizenship Rules notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday (May 18, 2026).
2. UAE to launch 16 new Indian passport and visa centres as Alhind takes over consular services : More than four million Indians living in the UAE are set to see a major overhaul in passport, visa and consular services, after India awarded a massive outsourcing contract to Kerala-based Alhind Group, which will launch 16 new service centres across all seven emirates from July 1, 2026.
3. India’s Venus orbiter mission, also called Shukrayaan, is a planned interplanetary mission to Venus with international collaboration from Sweden. The mission will carry 19 payloads and will study Venus’s atmosphere, exosphere, surface, weather systems and super-rotating clouds.
4. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit in India on September 12 and 13. The last time Putin visited New Delhi was for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025.
5. An Indian protocol officer of the Assistant High Commission at Khulshi in Bangladesh’s Chattogram was found dead inside the premises, prompting the local police to launch an investigation into the death. The deceased was identified as Naren Dhar (35) and belonged to Haryana.

2. Nepal’s legendary climbers Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa have broken their own Mount Everest records, reaching the summit for the 32nd and 11th time respectively. Their historic achievement highlights extraordinary endurance, Everest climbing legacy, and Nepal’s mountaineering excellence. Kami Rita Sherpa, 56 who is known as the “Everest Man”, was leading clients up the 8,849m (29,032ft) peak on Sunday when he set the new record.
