1. Sri Lanka on Friday awarded the construction of three solar and wind hybrid power generation facilities to an Indian company after scrapping a tender won by a Chinese firm. The project, initially financed by an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, was temporarily shelved two years ago after India raised concerns over China’s involvement.
2. Sri Lanka reaffirmed that it will not allow any other country to use its territory to harm India’s security interests, as a Chinese spy ship was seen in the Maldives waters on the same day.
Sri Lanka permitted China to dock its spy ship in the former’s waters until October 2023, amid India’s worries that the vessel could be used to spy on the region. However, Colombo prohibited the entry of the Chinese research vessel in its waters earlier this year, which is seen as a sign of increasing cooperation after New Delhi stepped in with huge financial and material assistance to the island nation reeling under an economic crisis.
3. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared his happiness over witnessing the joint inauguration of the Airstrip of Agalega, Saint James Jetty, and other development projects by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius.
4. Recently India-U.S. Senior Officials’ Homeland Security Dialogue (HSD) was held in New Delhi. Shri Ajay Bhalla, Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and Ms Kristie Canegallo, Acting Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security led the respective delegations.
During the dialogue, both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation in counter-terrorism and security domains, which has been a key pillar of the India-US strategic partnership.
5. There has been growing unrest in the regions of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir over Pakistan’s negligent attitude towards the region. The Titri Note area in PoK recently witnessed massive protests, during which hundreds of people demanded to cross over the border to reach the Poonch district in India, to procure flour, claiming that Pakistan cannot provide them even essentials.
6. At the ongoing 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, New Zealand’s Trade Minister Todd McClay, who also serves as the Vice Chair of the conference, voiced support for India’s stance on public stockholding.
7. The three-day International Gita Mahotsav commenced at Nelum Pokuna theatre in Colombo on Friday. The festival that celebrates the teachings of Srimad Bhagvad Gita, is being held for the first time in Sri Lanka. The festival featured competitions of Gita chanting, Rangoli, Art, and fancy dress in addition to several cultural performances.

4. France and Germany joined calls for an independent inquiry into the deaths of dozens of Palestinians in Gaza on Friday. Gaza health authorities said, Israeli forces had killed more than 100 Palestinians trying to reach a relief convoy near Gaza City on Thursday.
