1. The Chinese research vessel Da Yang Hao was observed loitering near India’s declared missile test danger zone during the recent trial, raising strategic concerns despite the ship not being officially configured for missile tracking.Its presence highlights China’s pattern of deploying dual-use survey vessels in the Indian Ocean Region at sensitive times, amplifying India’s vigilance over foreign maritime activity.

2. Iran has now institutionalised its control over the Strait of Hormuz by creating the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), which requires vessels to obtain permits and pay tolls before transiting Nations such as India and Pakistan have negotiated passage rights, while ships linked to the US or Israel face outright denial.

3. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued a categorical denial of reports suggesting that New Delhi and Abu Dhabi were working on an evacuation plan for Indian nationals through the UAE’s Fujairah port.

4. India and Peru are set to resume negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement in June 2026, with both sides aiming to conclude the deal by the end of the year.

5. India added 44 GW of solar capacity in 2025, taking the total installed solar capacity to 150 GW. By March 2026, India’s installed solar power capacity had reached 150.2 GW AC, and the country ranked as the world’s third-largest producer of solar power.

6. India will host the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) in New Delhi from 28 May to 31 May 2026. The summit will be held with the African Union Commission and will bring together leaders and representatives from across the African continent.

1. US President Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit to China from 13 to 15 May 2026 is being framed by Chinese media as a pivotal opportunity to stabilise and refine bilateral ties.
