1. India has expressed deep concern over the rising number of civilian casualties in Lebanon amid continued strikes by Israel despite the two-week ceasefire in West Asia. It asserted that the protection of civilians remains its foremost priority.

2. Defence Attaché in Mauritius: India will appoint a Defence Attaché in Mauritius to strengthen defense cooperation and enhance strategic engagement in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

3. . US Says F-35 “Still on the Table”: The United States has indicated that the pathway remains open for India to acquire the F-35 5th-generation stealth fighter. During a high-level meeting at the Pentagon between US Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment (Mike Duffy) and India’s Foreign Secretary, Duffy stated that the option for India to buy the F-35 is “still on the table.”

4. The Bangladesh Railway is set to import 200 broad-gauge (BG) coaches from India. Railway Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam told Bangladeh Parliament that the country will receiving coaches, financed by the European Investment Bank from this year.

5. Delhi S-400 Missile Shield: Following the approval for five additional S-400 squadrons, one squadron will be specifically dedicated to protecting the National Capital Region (NCR/New Delhi) while remaining mobile. Overall, India’s S-400 deployment will feature 4 squadrons positioned against Pakistan and 5 deployed in high-altitude sectors against China (including Ladakh, Sikkim, the Siliguri Corridor, and Arunachal Pradesh).

1. The four crew members of NASA’s Artemis II moon mission returned to Earth early this morning, with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

2. Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted despite a two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington that began on April 8, with shipping activity still far below normal levels

3. US Vice President JD Vance warned Tehran not to play the United States as he departed for Islamabad for negotiations aimed at ending the war with Iran.

4. Min Aung Hlaing has been sworn in as the elected President of Myanmar. He has led the country with strict military control since taking power from Aung San Suu Kyis government in 2021.

5. Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a ceasefire for Orthodox Easter, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressing Kyiv’s willingness to abide it. Russian news agency reported that the ceasefire will remain in effect today and on Sunday.

6. Former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi died last night after being injured in a US – Israeli airstrike last week. Kharazi had served as a foreign minister for Iran’s reformist President Mohammad Khatami and later worked as a foreign affairs adviser to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
