1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation this afternoon with the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving security situation in West Asia.

2. India has strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations for running an organised factory of hate that exploits religious terminology to cultivate permanent hostility towards India among its citizens. Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, slammed Islamabad for propagating state-sponsored disinformation by labelling militant outfits operating inside its own territory as ‘Fitna al Hindustan’.

3. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has said that India’s foreign policy is now in sync with its core national goals. The Minister said that foreign policy and diplomacy have got integrated with priorities of the Government focussing on social security and national development.

Dr Jaishankar said that India is safeguarding its deep strategic and economic interests in the Gulf region, while also maintaining its independent ties with Iran, the United States, and Israel.

4. PM Modi will be on a six day official visit to France and Slovakia from Saturday. In the first leg of the visit, the Prime Minister will visit Nice for a bilateral meeting with President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday. Both leaders will review the full spectrum of the India-France bilateral relationship, which was elevated to the level of a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.

5. The BRICS Agriculture Conference kicked off in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, bringing together representatives from 21 countries to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing agriculture worldwide. India, which holds the BRICS presidency this year, is hosting the conference.

Indore will host the BRICS Agriculture Working Group and Ministerial Meeting from June 9-13, 2026. Discussions will focus on food security, climate-resilient agriculture, smart farming, AI, agricultural trade, and farmer welfare among BRICS member nations.

6. Israel has announced plans to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in one of its major cities. The announcement was made on 6 June 2026, the day observed as Shivrajyabhishek Din, which marks the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on 6 June 1674.

1. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concerns over the renewed escalation in West Asia. Mr. Guterres urged all stakeholders to immediately stop attacks, exercise maximum restraint, and refrain from any action that could further inflame an already volatile situation.

2. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that Iranian forces had brought down a US Apache attack helicopter while it was conducting a patrol mission over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

3. Former Director of Sri Lanka’s State Intelligence Service, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, remains hospitalized in Colombo while continuing a hunger strike launched during his detention over investigations linked to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. Sallay, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on February 25, is being treated at the National Hospital in Colombo.

4. In Congo, over 100 people have died from Ebola less than a month after authorities declared an outbreak of the disease in the eastern part of the country. The latest Ebola disease outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which does not have an approved vaccine or treatment, unlike the Zaire virus responsible for most of Congo’s past 16 outbreaks of the disease.

5. Canada’s federal government announced plans on 8 June 2026 to introduce legislation that includes a ban on social media use for children under 16 years of age. The proposal is part of a wider online harms bill that is expected to be tabled in the House of Commons on 10 June 2026.

6. In the Philippines, the death toll has climbed to 37 after the 7.8-magnitude offshore earthquake that hit the southern part.
