1. Dr Dmitry Trenin, the newly elected president of the Kremlin-backed Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), has emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive balance in Russia’s relations with its two Asian strategic partners, India and China.

2. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged citizens to remain where they are for the next 48 hours, avoid electric and military installations, stay off upper floors of multi-storey buildings, and coordinate any highway movement strictly with the Embassy. Those in Embassy-hired hotels should stay indoors and maintain regular contact with on-site embassy teams.

3. Thirty Indian fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan prisons reached Chennai by flight yesterday. The fishermen from Rameswaram and Karaikal had gone fishing and were fishing near Pamban. The Sri Lankan Navy arrested them for trespassing into international waters.

4. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a three-day visit aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.

The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

5. India has dispatched a consignment of 250 Metric Tonnes of foodgrains to Seychelles.

1. Tensions across West Asia have risen sharply as Israel has intensified strikes on Iran. US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s power plants and bridges could be destroyed if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz and agree to a new deal.

2. Iran has officially rejected a Pakistani-brokered proposal for a temporary ceasefire, insisting instead on a permanent end to the ongoing war with the United States and Israel.

3. Vietnam’s Communist Party’s Secretary General To Lam was unanimously elected by parliament as the country’s president for a five-year term. The election of To Lam as the president marks a shift in Vietnam’s power structure, wherein the positions of party secretary and state president have traditionally been held by different people.
