1. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said India and Jamaica are close geographically apart and both nations are proud developing nations of the Global South. In his remarks at the unveiling of the new digital scoreboard at Sabina Park Cricket Stadium in Jamaica, Dr Jaishankar said India has stood with Jamaica in times of celebration, sport and moments of difficulty.
2. India has rejected Nepal’s claim over Lipulekh Pass, termed it as a long-standing route for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra since 1954 and the Yatra through this route has been going on for decades. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a social media post said this in response to claims related to border issues made by Foreign Ministry of Nepal in the context of the annual Kailash Manasarovar Yatra.

1. The United States will launch Project Freedom to “guide” countries with ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump said this effort will help hundreds of vessels and some 20,000 seafarers.
2. Three people have died and three fell ill after a suspected Hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship en route from Argentina to Cape Verde. According to the World Health Organization, Hantavirus is a rodent-borne virus that can cause fatal respiratory illness.
3. Singapore and New Zealand signed a legally binding agreement on 4 May 2026 to strengthen supply chain resilience and maintain the flow of critical goods. The pact covers essential supplies such as food, fuel, healthcare products, chemical products, and construction products.
4. Balikatan 2026 is a joint military exercise between the Philippines and the United States that began on 20 April 2026 and is scheduled to end on 8 May 2026. The exercise involves more than 17,000 troops from the Philippines, the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada, France, and New Zealand.
