1. India and Japan on Thursday (July 2, 2026) unveiled a raft initiatives, including an economic partnership framework and a defence pact to co-develop military hardware following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi.
India and Japan today agreed to deepen cooperation on strategic crude oil stockpiling, petroleum reserve mechanisms, and maritime energy transport value chains. It comes after annual summit-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi.
2. I-2SEA is a new submarine cable system unveiled on 2 July 2026 for connectivity between Singapore, India and Malaysia. The consortium includes Lightstorm, Microsoft, Singtel and Tata Communications, and the system supplier is NEC Corporation.
3. GAGAN stands for GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation. It is India’s indigenous Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) developed jointly by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The system has been operational since 2015 and supports satellite navigation for aircraft operations in Indian airspace.
4. People of Venezuela have expressed appreciation for the Indian medical team at the field hospital established under ‘Operation Amistad’ for providing treatment to those affected by the devastating earthquakes. India launched ‘Operation Amistad’ to support Venezuela following devastating twin earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24 that caused widespread destruction across the country.
5. India’s long-standing proposal for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism has received renewed support at the United Nations General Assembly. The Ninth Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, adopted by 140 votes, has urged member states to make every effort to finalise the convention proposed by India over three decades ago.
6. The indirect talks between Iran and the US through mediator concluded in Doha. both sides agreed to continue discussions after the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, on July 9.
7. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is on a visit to France, met Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman of Corporate and Institutional Banking BNP Paribas Group Yann Gérardin in Paris.
8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India-Japan relations are truly very special and there are many shining examples of the success of the economic partnership. Addressing the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in New Delhi.

1. The UK’s caretaker Prime Minister Keir Starmer formally apologised for the British state’s role in separating tens of thousands of unmarried mothers from their babies, a practice that lasted for decades until the 1970s. Speaking in the Parliament, Prime Minister Starmer said they are deeply and profoundly sorry for what he called a stain on their history
2. Wildfires raged in the south of France yesterday after weeks of dry weather and record temperatures across the country, devastating large swaths of land. The biggest fire spread in the Aude and Herault regions, where up to 800 firefighters and 150 vehicles were deployed to tackle the flames that ran over 2,200 acres.
3. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence detected the presence of 22 sorties of Chinese military aircraft around itself today. Of the 22, 20 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).
4. Russia launched drone and missile attack on Ukrainian capital overnight killing 17 civilians and injuring more than 90 others. Damage was recorded in 30 locations across Kyiv, mainly residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
5. In Pakistan, Seven people died and one went missing after a tourist boat capsized in Saifullah Lake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
