Manny, a wooden clock

Manny a wooden clock

It is midnight and
Saheb-E-Alam is working under the car, mending
something, screwing something, tightening
something alone with a flickering battery light.

I wonder if he had his dinner. Oh sorry!
Let me start from the beginning.. I am Manny,
a wooden wall clock hung above the counter
of the Gogi Garage since 1987.

I see who comes, who goes, who stays,
who works, who smokes, who makes out,
who pays the check, who drinks oils, who
steals tools, and who spills the gas.

But unlike Saheb I don’t burn myself.
I enjoy my breaks and rest. He says he
overdoes himself because he has to
feed his mother and sisters. So, they
don’t die like the father from hunger.

Now, who is this monster Hunger?
I have heard evil things about him
for years. It is time to fight him
on behalf of the people
he had fed on,
My People.

(Don’t worry, folks. Manny is here to
save the day. Since Manny feels nothing,
Hunger cannot harm Manny as it did
you.

So, march on. Live Happily. Manny
will join you once it finishes off the
Hunger.)
