Ten days before her demise, Saroj ji told me to get her more work: Darasing Khurana

Model-actor Darasing Khurana shared a close bond with late choreographer Saroj Khan. And on her first death anniversary, he remembers spending great time with her in her last few days. The veteran was part of an online cultural event that Darasing spearheaded and she participated in it despite being unwell. The digital event took place during the lockdown last year.

Talking about her infectious energy, the model-actor says, “Saroj ji was so much in love with her work that she would say, ‘Beta, please get me more events; I want to work till my last breath.’ Her passion and enthusiasm was inspiring. She was unwell on the day of the event, and when we asked her to reconsider her participation, she was like, ‘once I’ve committed to something, I’ll fulfil it.’ Her spirit was commendable. During the event, she interacted enthusiastically with all the participants and even shared feedback with those who performed.”

Darasing also spent a lot of quality time with the late artiste around that time and he remembers how the last few years were tough for her, professionally. “Saroj ji was respected by the entire industry, but she didn’t have work for a long time. She told me that people would meet her at events and promise work, but they never called back. I feel honoured that I got to know her so closely and I’ll always miss her,” says Darasing.
