Directed by debut filmmaker Shrimoyee Chakraborty, Spirit of the Wildflower marks her feature directorial debut and has already gained international attention with its presentation at the Cannes Film Festival. The film also marks the production debut of Om Singh, Co-Founder of Adyah Music and Dot Media. The project later received support from prominent names including Radhika Piramal, Neeraj Churi тАФ winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize тАФ and LGBTQ+ advocate Keshav Suri, all of whom joined as Executive Producers.
Speaking about the documentary, director Shrimoyee Chakraborty emphasized that the film was never intended to speak for its subjects, but rather to listen to them and portray their lives with dignity and strength. She also consciously avoided the тАЬpoverty-pornтАЭ lens often associated with rural documentaries, choosing instead to highlight resilience, confidence, and humanity.
At a time when conversations around gender identity are gradually entering mainstream discourse, Spirit of the Wildflower stands apart because of its authenticity and rooted storytelling. Presented at Cannes between May 16 and 21, 2026, the film is currently open for international acquisition and distribution.
