Entrepreneur Gauravv Saxena opens up about his memories of Ganesh Chaturthi, the difference between celebrating the festival in North India and Mumbai, and why the essence of Bappa’s festival continues to remain rooted in faith and togetherness. For Gauravv, the festival has taken on a completely different meaning after moving to Mumbai, where the celebrations become a city-wide experience.
Talking about what Ganesh Chaturthi means to him today, Gauravv says, “Growing up in North India, Ganesh Chaturthi was a quiet, revered prayer, but living in Mumbai completely transformed the festival’s scale and spirit. Here, it isn’t just observed behind closed doors; the entire city pulses with an unmatched, electric warmth that genuinely rivals Diwali. Today, it represents grounding, homecoming, and an infectious collective optimism that reminds you life always finds a rhythm to move forward.”
The entrepreneur also looks back fondly at a simple childhood tradition that continues to hold a special place in his heart. “Sitting down for the quiet evening aarti with family, where the simplest clay murti and traditional homemade sweets brought everyone together in genuine stillness. It remains special because it anchors life back to basics—no spectacle, just pure devotion and togetherness,” he shares.
For Gauravv, Lord Ganesha, also known as Vighnaharta, teaches an important lesson about dealing with obstacles. He explains, “Ganesha teaches that removing obstacles isn’t about wishing paths were completely flat, but developing the inner calm and intellect to navigate through them. His broad ears and steady presence are a daily reminder to listen more, react less, and approach complex hurdles with patience rather than panic.”
While Ganesh Chaturthi has become increasingly grand and commercialised, Gauravv believes the true spirit of the festival is still very much alive. “While the sheer scale, booming sound systems, and branding can sometimes overshadow the quiet spirituality, the beating heart of the festival remains intact. The moment you step into a neighborhood pandal late at night, share prasad with complete strangers, or watch families walk together during aarti, the core spirit of warmth and unity is unmistakably alive,” he says.
This year, Gauravv plans to experience the festival through pandal hopping and spending time with his close circles rather than bringing Bappa home for an extended sthapana. “This year, the celebration centers on pandal hopping and joining close circles rather than an extended sthapana at home, keeping the schedule flexible for travel and work while soaking in the city’s festive energy,” he shares.
For him, visiting friends and being part of community celebrations is one of the biggest highlights of the festival. “Visiting friends, hopping across homes, and joining community pandals is the true highlight of the season. There is something profoundly uplifting about moving from one home to another, taking in the unique decorations, sharing laughter, and being part of each family’s personal devotion,” says Gauravv.
And when it comes to festive food, Gauravv has quite a few favourites. “Steamed Ukadiche Modak, fresh off the steamer with a drizzle of pure ghee. Crisp, warm motichoor laddus straight from local sweet shops. Pure comfort food: rich puran poli and piping hot morning kachoris paired with strong black coffee to kick off the festive mornings,” he says.
As he looks ahead, Gauravv’s wish to Bappa is centred around the well-being of his loved ones and maintaining a sense of balance in life. “I wish for good health, deep clarity, and boundless energy for family and loved ones, along with the inner peace to stay grounded and purposeful no matter what new chapter or venture unfolds next,” he concludes.
