1. Indian High Commission in Dhaka in touch with Indian nationals in Bangladesh who want to come back, says Ministry of External Affairs.

2. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has discussed the situation in Bangladesh and West Asia with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

3. External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar will be on a three day official visit to the Maldives from today.

4. Indian government officials had reportedly alerted former Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about the potential dangers associated with the appointment of General Waker-Uz-Zaman as Army Chief in June of last year.

5. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called on Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu and held discussions on issues ranging from cultural ties to regional and global security. President Smt Murmu, who is on a three-nation visit, reached New Zealand on Wednesday.

1. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been sworn-in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government. Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to him.

Born on 28 June 1940, Mr Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi entrepreneur, banker, and economist. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance.

2. In the United Kingdom, thousands of people took to the streets across the country to counter far-right demonstrations after days of unrest following the Southport stabbing. A large number of people swarmed the streets in cities and towns.

3. The Japanese Meteorological Agency has issued a megaquake advisory, as part of the Nankai Trough Earthquake Extra Information protocol, after a 7.1 magnitude quake rocked Japan yesterday.

4. In Russia, a state of emergency has been declared in the Kursk region as a rare cross-border attack by Ukrainian troops continued. Russian officials stated that since the start of the incursion, at least five civilians have been killed and 31 wounded, including six children.

5. Saudi Arabia has publicly denounced the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, calling it a “blatant violation” of Iran’s sovereignty.

6. Pakistan’s President of Youth PMLQ, M Kamran Saeed Usmani, tweeted optimistically about the future of Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, suggesting that there would now be no obstacles to friendship between the two nations.
