New Delhi, Monday, July 29, 2024: Manu Bhaker reached her second consecutive Olympic medal round at the French National Shooting Centre range in Chateauroux, this time with Sarabjot Singh as partner, as the duo shot a combined 580 to setup a bronze medal showdown with Korea in the Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol. The Indian pair missed out to the experienced Serbian pair of Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec by a point as Turkey topped the qualification round.

Also, on day three of the Paris Olympics shooting competition, Ramita finished seventh and Arjun Babuta a heart-breaking, as India’s wait for a second medal in shooting continued after Manu had won bronze in the individual women’s air pistol on day two.

Manu shot 291 and Sarabjot 289 in their respective 30-shots. Both shooters shot a series of 95 each, Sarab to start with and Manu in the end, as Arunovic’s 292, the highest among the qualifiers, ensured the Serbs had a shot at gold.

In the Air Rifle finals, it was a teenage show all through as Korea’s 16-year-old Ban Hyojin and China’s 19-year-old rifle sensation Sheng Lihao, took the women’s and men’s gold medals respectively setting new Olympic records on the way.

India’s Ramita finished seventh in the women’s final, after going down in a shoot-off to the host’s Oceanne Muller after both had tied at 145.3 at the 14-shot mark.

Arjun Babuta’s fourth in the men’s final was even more heart-wrenching as the Chandigarh lad did little wrong and was also after 12-shots just 0.1 behind wire-to-wire winner Sheng. A couple of low 10s leading up to the business end meant he needed a 10.3 for his 20th to ensure a medal. A 9.5 came up on the screen as Arjun fired, bringing his first Olympic Games to an end, sadly without a medal.

India also began their campaign at the Chatearoux shotgun ranges but Prithviraj Tondaiman’s first day qualification score of 68 after three rounds gave him very little chance of making the top six final stage on day four.
