1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Kerala, Karnataka and Goa during the next four days. The IMD added that light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning will occur over Gujarat, Maharashtra, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 4 days.

2. The IMD added that heatwave conditions are likely over parts of West Uttar Pradesh until the 24th of this month.

3. The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on Monday. During the session, the oath and affirmation of newly elected members will take place.

4. The Union Education Ministry has constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts to ensure the transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The seven-member committee, chaired by former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, has been tasked with recommending reforms in the examination process of NTA to enhance efficiency and prevent breaches, improve data security protocols, and review the structure and functioning of the agency.

5. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has welcomed the decision of the Union Education Ministry to form a panel to recommend reforms in the examination process conducted by the NTA.

6. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha performed the ‘Pratham Puja’ to mark the ceremonial commencement of the Annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra through video conferencing yesterday.

7. In Odisha, the Devasnana Purnima or Snana Yatra rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings at Puri Srimandir commenced yesterday.

8. In Assam, the famous Ambubachi Mela began yesterday at the Kamakhya temple. This will conclude on 26th of this month. Lakhs of devotees have gathered for the Ambubachi mela. The event celebrates the annual menstruation of the Goddess Kamakhya, symbolising fertility and womanhood. During the festival, the gates of Kamakhya Temple will remain closed. The temple gates will reopen at 9:08 PM on 25th of this month.

9. The central government will be able to take control of any telecommunications services or networks in times of emergency after the implementation of the Telecommunications Act 2023, which will be effective on 26 June.

10. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Saturday. The initiative, designed for faster, smoother and safer immigration clearance, is likely to ease congestion at immigration counters.

11. Welcoming Telangana govt’s decision of waiving off crop loans of farmers up to Rs 2 lakh, Punjab farmers have also reiterated their demand of farm debt waiver from the central govt.
The Telangana govt has claimed the scheme would benefit nearly 40 lakh farmers.

12. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Palakkad and IIT-Mandi have jointly developed an underwater robotic vehicle (URV) that can explore ocean depths up to 300 m. The collaborative project between IIT-Palakkad Technology IHub Foundation (IPTIF) and IIT Mandi has been funded by the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Central Department of Science and Technology.

1. NEET-PG Entrance Examination, which was scheduled to take place today, 23 June 2024, has been postponed. This decision comes against the backdrop of recent allegations concerning the integrity of several competitive examinations in the country.

2. The National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Kumar has been removed from his position. Pradeep Singh Kharola has been appointed to take on additional responsibilities as the new Director General of the NTA under the Ministry of Education.

3. Bihar Police have arrested six persons from Deoghar district of Jharkhand in connection with alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. Upon identification, all suspects were taken into custody and transferred to Bihar. It may be noted that the Economic Offence Unit of Bihar is investigating the case.

4. Ravi Atri, the alleged mastermind behind the NEET-UG 2024 exam paper leak, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) amid nationwide protests by students seeking a probe into the exam.

5. The Centre has enacted a stringent law that aims to curb malpractices and irregularities in competitive examinations. The law entails provisions for a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of up to 1 crore rupees for offenders.

6. In a move to crack down on “latecomers,” the Centre’s department of personnel and training (DoPT) has mandated that all government employees, including senior officials, must arrive at the office by 9 am, allowing a grace period of 15 minutes.

The central government offices operate from 9 am to 5.30 pm, junior-level employees often arrive late and leave early, causing inconvenience, especially in public-facing roles.

1. The Indian Navy is set to procure four Tapas drones developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). These drones, designed and manufactured in India, will be deployed for maritime surveillance operations.

The merit list is divided into two segments: the 120th Short Service Commission Course (NT) for Men and the 34th Short Service Commission Women (Non-Technical) Course, both set to commence in October 2024. A total of 204 candidates have been recommended for the men’s course, with an additional 67 female candidates qualifying for the women’s course.
