why do banyan tree worshipped in Santana Dharma

Banyan tree is one of the most venerated trees in Santana Dharma. It has the ability to grow and survive for centuries. Saints, Sages and hermits use to meditate under these trees including Buddha .
Banayan/Peepal/Neem tree releases oxygen even at night via Crassulacean Acid Metabolism(CAM) process and during day time via well known photosynthesis process.
