1. The Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V Muraleedharan, is set to represent India at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Rio de Janeiro from February 21-22. Notably, Brazil assumed the presidency from India on 20 December 2023, and the G20 Foreign Minister’s Meeting would be the first ministerial meeting under the 🇧🇷Brazilian Presidency.
2. Indonesia’s newly-elected president, Prabowo Subianto, on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message and agreed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between both countries to greater heights.
3. New Delhi will host a roundtable to discuss the European Union (EU) and India’s collaboration in security and policy aspects of online disinformation and information manipulation on 21 February 2024. Over 35 experts from the EU and India will join forces in New Delhi on Wednesday (February 21).
4. India is aiming to become a key player in the Philippines’ military capability upgrade as it seeks to promote itself as a major arms exporter in the region.
5. Pakistan increased number of telecom towers along the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) in recent times with an aim to aid terrorists and their associates in infiltration activities.
6. Gerard Larcher, Chairman of the French Senate, is on an official visit to India from 19 to 20 February 2024, accompanied by a delegation of five senators.The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation between France and India.
7. India and Japan held the seventh meeting of the India-Japan Act East Forum (AEF) on 19 February 2024 in New Delhi.
Act East Forum was set up following the meeting between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2014 with two main objectives – (i) the development of the Northeastern Region of India and (ii) to promote connectivity within this region and between this region and South-East Asia.
8. The ceremonial launch of construction of 1300 houses under Phase IV of Indian Housing Project was held in Colombo. The High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha joined President of SriLanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe in the virtual launch.
