Weather Update: Heavy Rains Hit Chennai As IMD Predicts Massive Falls In Tamil Nadu
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Rayalaseema on June 19 and light to moderate falls with thunderstorms and lightning for the next five days in the Southern India. Light Rains were reported form isolated places in Delhi- NCR while the met department has predicted cloudy sky with possibility of drizzle.

1. The Depression over Southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat which is the remnant of Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy has moved east- northeast wards with a speed of seven kilometers per hour.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in South Rajasthan, North Gujarat and Western Madhya Pradesh.

PM Modi in his Mann Ki Baat mentioned about:

(d) PM also spoke about Emergency was a dark era in the country’s history when atrocities were committed on those supporting democracy.

(e) PM said India has set a target of eradicating tuberculosis (TB) by 2025 and ‘Ni-kshay Mitra’ has taken charge of this movement against the disease.

(f) PM also congratulated India’s women’s junior hockey team for lifting their maiden Women’s Junior Asia Cup in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

(g) Elaborating on the theme of this year’s International Day of Yoga, PM Modi said, “The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. This expresses the spirit of Yoga that unites and takes us together.”

2. Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 is being conferred on Gita Press, Gorakhpur. Established in 1923, Gita Press is one of the world’s largest publishers, having published over 41 crore books in 14 languages, including over 16 crore Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.

3. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh addresses a group of successful candidates of the UPSC Civil Services Examination at a function held in Lucknow.

4. TELANGANA: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) asked the state government to go ahead with the land acquisition for these projects as per original designs that were already approved by the Centre even as farmers protest demanding realignment in several districts.

5. MAHARASHTRA: MLC Manisha Kayande, who was dismissed from her post as spokesperson of the Shiv Sena (UBT) has joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

Former MLA Shishir Shinde, who along with other Sena workers had dug up Wankhede’s pitch to stop India’s game against Pakistan in 1991, has also quit Shiv Sena (UBT).

6. KARNATAKA CM Siddaramaiah said the current month’s electricity bills were heavy because they reflected arrears of the last two months. The bills would look less from next month onwards as they would reflect just the previous month’s consumption, he stated.

7. RAJASTHAN: Months before Assembly elections in Rajasthan, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal promised 300 units of free electricity, mohalla clinics, jobs, schools and a corruption-free state if his party is voted to power.

8. TELANGANA: The BRS will stay away from the meeting of non-BJP parties being convened by JDU chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on June 23.

9. Education reformist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday began a seven-day hunger strike in Ladakh. His fast comes a day ahead of talks between the Centre and a delegation of the Kargil Democratic Alliance who are seeking full statehood and constitutional safeguards under the sixth schedule. It is Wangchuk’s second climate fast in the past six months.

10. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2023 result has been declared. Vavilala Chidvilas Reddy from the IIT Hyderabad Zone has topped the examination.

1. ALONE CHILD SEEKING HELP MIGHT BE CRIMINALS’ TRAP: NCIB to women
National Crime Investigation Bureau, on Sunday, raised a concerning trend in crimes against women. The organisation asked girls who go to school/college/office or market alone, to take kids seeking help on the road to the police, saying the criminals reportedly exploit children who pretend to be lost in public and use them as bait to lure women.

2. Mandeep Kaur (Daaku Haseena) and her husband Jaswinder Singh, suspected to be the masterminds of ₹8.5 crore Ludhiana CMS cash robbery, were arrested by Punjab Police. The duo went to Uttarakhand’s Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib after the robbery. Police started distributing packs of ₹10 drinks to the pilgrims and when they offered the same to them, they accidentally uncovered their faces.

3. NCP will observe ‘Gaddar Diwas’ (Traitors’ Day) on June 20 to mark the first anniversary of the rebellion in Shiv Sena which led to the fall of then CM Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra.

1. Actor Karan Suchak, who portrayed Lakshman in the show ‘Siya Ke Ram’, shared his opinion on Om Raut’s directorial ‘Adipurush’. While urging everyone to “avoid” the film, he said that the way in which Ramayana has been presented in it is “completely wrong”. Karan further said despite excellent actors, the film “failed”.

2. Writer Manoj Muntashir praised director Om Raut and producer Bhushan Kumar’s decision to alter few dialogues of ‘Adipurush’, which have been receiving criticism from the audience.

3. Actor Mukesh Khanna (SHAKTIMAN) called ‘Adipurush’ a “bhayanak mazaak” with Ramayana and blamed Om Raut for “stuffing” it with “nuisance”. He also said, they made Raavan look like a cheap smuggler (Dressing and Hair style) and Meghnath is reduced to look like a WWF wrestler.

Arun Govil, who played Sri Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’, has reacted to the same and said that he doesn’t support such kind of language in a film based on Ramayan.

4. Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah’s Secretariat has announced that Indian movies will not be screened in the city from Monday. This comes after a controversy erupted over a dialogue in ‘Adipurush’ that called Janaki “India’s daughter”. Balen has stated that the ban will be lifted if “objectionable portions” are removed from ‘Adipurush’.

5. Actor Poojappura Ravi, who primarily performed comedy roles in Malayalam films, passed away in Kerala on Sunday aged 86.

1. Indian Coast Guard continues efforts post Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ landfall.

2. The Defence Ministry is organising a two-day brainstorming session- Chintan Shivir in New Delhi beginning to discuss various issues and challenges faced by its departments.

3. The department of military affairs (DMA), led by the Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, will discuss and identify measures to eliminate colonial practices and outdated laws within the armed forces, at a two-day brainstorming session starting on Monday.

4. The Army and Navy have undertaken a comprehensive review of colonial practices that can be discontinued. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new ensign for the Indian Navy, which drew inspiration from Chhatrapati Shivaji and dropped the colonial era St George’s Cross.

The ‘Chintan Shivir’ will serve as a platform for the DMA to discuss ways to integrate the country’s values and practices into the functioning of the armed forces.
