pakistans supreme court declares former prime minister imran khans arrest illegal

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Thursday. Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh till May 12. After that, he will visit Belgium and Sweden.

2. Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district to improve trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh.

3. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the “Buddham Saranam Gacchami” exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Arts, New Delhi. The Exhibition is open for public till 10th June at the National Gallery of Modern Arts, India Gate.

4. The 3rd Energy Transitions Working Group – ETWG Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Mumbai from 15th to 17th of this month.

1. Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ruled that former prime minister Imran Khan’s dramatic arrest on corruption charges this week was illegal. The court ordered Mr Khan’s immediate release. The order to produce 70-year-old Khan was issued by a three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah.

The bench, which heard Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman’s plea against his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case, expressed anger at the way Khan was taken into custody from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.
