Mumbai Indians outshines Kolkata Knight Riders April 2021

Mumbai Indians scored their first victory of the season by beating KKR in the 5th match on Tuesday at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

MI started off with a slight change in their line-up. Quinton de Kock replaced Chris Lynn at the top but did not last long at the pitch. He was replaced by Suryakumar Yadav. He and Rohit pushed the teams score to 42/1 by the end of the powerplay. Surya hit hard from the second he stepped on the crease. The right-handed batsmen nailed his 50 in style by hitting a six of Pat Cummins delivery.

It was crucial to break MI’s on crease tempo and KKR rose on that situation by dismissing Surya at the hands of Shakib Al Hassan and Ishan Kishan at the hands of Pat Cummins respectively.
Over the course of the next 4 overs, Rohit in partnership with Hardik Pandya added 27 more runs. Cummins took out the skipper as he tried to push the ball on the off-side.

KKR’s bowling line up was very disciplined in their efforts and kept Hardik and Polard from going over the ropes. Prasid Krishna got Hardik for 15 runs in the 17th over, followed by Russell claiming 5 wickets in the 18th and final over, dismissing MI for 152/10.

KKR started with Nitish Rana and Shuban Gill on the crease. The duo batted carefully and were thus able to reach the 50-run partnership mark at the end of the power play. It was Chahr in the 9th who broke the partnership by getting Gill caught in the hands of the outfielder. Chahr continued his wicket run. Next, he dismissed Rahul Tripathi in the 11th over and won his third wicket over KKR skipper Eoin Morgan. Chahr dint stop there. He outwitted Rana and scored his fourth wicket with Quinton de Kock stumping the batsman’s strong game.

Next to leave the field was Shakib Al Hasan at the hands of Krunal Pandey in the 16th over. Krunal continued to mount pressure on KKR . His delivery almost caught Andre Russell’s skier but Jasprit Bumrah missed the opportunity.

In the 19th over, Bumrah bowled economically and dint give away any more than four runs to Russel and Karthik’s duo.

Boult outshined the duo in the final over. He delivered for MI and stole two wickets including that of Russell and sealed the deal by ten runs.
