1. India has won in the UN Statistical Commission election, securing 46 out of 53 votes. “India elected to the highest UN statistical body for a 4-year term beginning on January 1, 2024.
2. International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it’d cut around 1,500 jobs and roll back operations in some locations amid expected decline in budgets for humanitarian aid.

1. Taiwan-US meet in California despite China’s warnings. U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday, becoming the most senior U.S. figure to meet a Taiwanese leader on U.S. soil since 1979 despite threats of retaliation from China, which claims self-ruled Taiwan as its own.
2. Chinese warships, aircraft spotted in island amid US-Taiwan meet. “1 PLA aircraft and 3 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected today,” Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
3. Former US President Donald Trump was welcomed by his supporters as he reached Palm Beach in Florida after his court appearance in New York in the hush money payment case.
4. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Poland on Wednesday to thank its neighbouring country for its support in its war against Russia. Zelenskyy was accompanied by his wife, First Lady Olena Zelenska on the trip. He was awarded Poland’s oldest and highest civilian distinction, The Order of the White Eagle, by Polish President Andrzej Duda.
5. French President Emmanuel Macron and his US counterpart Joe Biden share “willingness” to engage China to “accelerate the end of the war in Ukraine”.
6. Tech executive and investor Bob Lee, who founded Cash App and helped create Android, was stabbed to death in San Francisco on Tuesday. The 43-year-old was most recently the CPO of San Francisco-based cryptocurrency company MobileCoin.
7. US FAA has shown that a key SpaceX Starship Super Heavy rocket launch test could happen next week. The primary expected date for the launch is April 10.
