VIVO IPL: MATCH 2: CSK VS DC
Delhi Capital (DC) breezed through their opening VIVO IPL 2021 gig with a stunner 7-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
Despite being short on the International roaster, Delhi Capitals chased down the challenging total smoothly.
The dynamic openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw put an aggressive show from the very first knock.
From Prithvi finding clear gaps on one end to Dhawan taking on Sam Curran, runs came in easy with zero loss to the team. To break the partnership, MS Dhoni added spin to the mix only to have missed Shaw by a catch in the 8th over in the outfield off Moeen Ali’s Bowling.
Pacing and beautifully timing their knocks, in no time both Prithvi and Shikhar managed to score their 50’s.
Shaw fell prey to Dwayne Bravo’s wide delivery eventually easing the much-required pressure off of CK’s defence. Shaw mistimed and got caught in the deep by Moeen Ali of Bravo’s wide delivery. Shaw walked off by contributing 72 off 38 deliveries.
Rishab Pant entered the pitch in style, slicing a four to a short and wide delivery bowled by Deepak Chahar.
Dhawan continued bashing the bowling lines unapologetically through every possible gap there was on the Wankhede field. He eventually got dismissed in the 17th over at Shardul Thakur’s delivery.
Pant stayed on to seal the chase by knocking the final four on the fourth delivery of the final over.
CSK’s batting performance was put to test as they hit the pitch. Both Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad got sent off early. Dhawan sponsored Woakes first wicket of the innings by executing a sharp catch and dismissing Gaikwad. Faf Du Plessis fell prey to Avesh Khan’s pace.
To bring CSK some respite Moeen Ali was joined by Suresh Raina on the pitch. Powerplay saw some fine shots by the duo, bringing CSK 33/2 at the end of it.
Although Moeen tried to push the runrate by knocking 2 sixes off Ashwin in the 9th over, the spinner got him as Moeen played into the hands of Dhawan.
At the end of the 19th over, CSK, stood at 71/3, with Raina and Ambati Rayudu in the middle. The duo managed to score their fifty- partnership off just 24 deliveries. Raina, smashing a half volley, sealed his fifty, and became the first to score the fifty of the season.
Tom Cuurran played a crucial role for DC by taking Raydu’s wicket. Jadeja joined Raina by striking two boundaries of the first 2 deliveries.
Raina got compromised in the mix-up with Jadeja, eventually running himself out. Skipper, Ms Dhoni came to the pitch only to go back on Avesh’s second delivery.
Sam Curran and Jadeja brought up their 50-run partnership and pushed CSK to a considerable total of 188/7.
