1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, 2016 surgical strikes, 2019 Balakot airstrike and Operation Sindoor in 2025 are bold examples of India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. The Prime Minister was addressing the nation in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to former International Working President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Ashok Singhal on his 100th birth anniversary. Born on 27th September 1926 in Agra, Ashok Singhal dedicated his life to culture, society and the nation. During the Mann Ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Modi recalled Singhal’s role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and his efforts to address social discrimination and inequality.
3. Bank strike begins today
Public-sector bank and Regional Rural Bank unions have called a three-day strike from 28–30 September 2026.
The main outstanding demand is a five-day working week for banks.
The government has appealed for uninterrupted banking services.
RBI approved continued operation of branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests that day.
4. Indian Railways has approved extending the Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi–Agra Cantt Express to Mathura. The extension is intended to improve connectivity between Jhansi, Agra and Mathura.
5. Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY is providing healthcare coverage to more than 60 crore people.More than 13 crore hospital admissions have been covered under the scheme, with expenditure exceeding ₹2 lakh crore.
6. At the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU): Freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s legacy will take centre stage in the Ludhiana city today as the state government hosts Jashan-e-Inquilab, a programme to mark his birth anniversary.
7. Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has called for developing a bamboo-based economy in the state to promote sustainable development, create rural livelihoods and provide eco-friendly alternatives to plastic.
8. Senior IPS officer Vinay Kumar, whose tenure as Director General of Police of Bihar was to end in December with his superannuation, has taken voluntary retirement and is tipped to take over as the state’s new Chief Information Commissioner.
9. Weather & mishaps: Heavy monsoon conditions continue to affect parts of India. In Sikkim, landslides and flash floods have damaged dozens of houses, with one village potentially being declared uninhabitable.
10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, South Interior Karnataka and Uttarakhand. It has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds over North Eastern parts of India during the next two days.

1. A Bengaluru court on Saturday extended the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar by another eight days in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process.
2. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two more people in connection with the ₹11.42-crore “digital arrest” case in Gujarat. The arrests came following searches at 22 locations across 10 States under Operation Chakra-VI.
3. Food safety: Uttar Pradesh has made displaying the “use-by” date mandatory on sweets, following inspections that found consumers were often not given clear expiry information.
4. PIB Fact Check: A viral claim that Instagram will be banned in India has been declared fake by the PIB Fact Check Unit.
5. Amritsar Rural Police have arrested five people in connection with the firing incident involving Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswant Singh, who was posted with the Amritsar City Commissionerate.Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the two alleged shooters were identified as Karanbir Singh Nandi and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi.

3. American airpower has arrived in Jodhpur. Six F-35 Lightning-II fifth-generation fighter jets and more than 200 US Airmen have touched down in India for their first-ever participation in Exercise Tarang Shakti, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor confirmed.
4. The Indian Navy plans to operate around 230 ships by 2040–2045 as it prepares for a more contested maritime environment, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan said.
