The Golden Temple is a gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the preeminent spiritual site of Sikhism. The gurdwara is built around a man-made pool that was completed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, in 1577. In 1604, Guru Arjan placed a copy of the Adi Granth in Harmandir Sahib.

Bhagavad Gita Verse 6.5 teaches that you must elevate yourself through your own mind and never degrade yourself, because the mind can be your greatest friend or your worst enemy.
उद्धरेदात्मनाऽत्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् ।आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुः आत्मैव रिपुरात्मनः ॥ ५ ॥
Transliterationuddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayetātmaiva hyātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ
“One should elevate oneself through one’s own mind and not degrade oneself. For the mind alone is the friend of the self, and the mind alone is the enemy of the self.”

The mind itself is said to be the cause of bondage and liberation.
